I'd like add something to some 50/50 lube I have to make it a little harder and be able to use it at a little higher velocity, around 24-2500. Any suggenstions?

Wow! I hope you make it.
I added Castrol high pressure/high temp synthetic grease. It took a while to blend in, and it is slick as anything.
I did some full tilt loads. 20min of berm, but no leading.
I went to paper to get those speeds, which I do routinely with paper.

I want to amend my last post,
It is Castrol synthetic Wax Stick.

i did some experimenting with adding alox (tumble lube type) that was still in the hard form. that stuff is real hard. I never really tested it but gave some to felix to try. dont know if he ever did either. Carduba wax may harden it some too.

Still sitting in box upstairs, Lloyd! Have to get on to it soon. Much like the 22 project, eh? ... felix

On a 50/50 lube, I have been considering adding a bit of sodium stearate / ivory soap to my mix to get up a bit harder lube... but then would have to add a bit of a heater and I do not like that option.

heck pal every project ive got has been on hold for about 2 years now! Dont hurry on my account. Like i told you if you dont have time just use it up for plinking stuff.

I've added paraffin to my lube receipes and it seems to help. I did add too much once and had to use light heat to start the lube flowing.

I use Lars BAC lube and I add a 3/8" slice off a stick of Lars Carnuba Red to the full solid stick of BAC and melt them together in a second hand store pan on a hot plate. Mix well and pour in the Star or Lyman 450 using the cut off top of a 2 liter pop bottle as a funnel. The lube sticks well in the grooves of the boolit and when they cool down (I use a adjustable heater because I size and lube in a cool basement and it just flows better with a little heat) they are not sticky and don't tend to wipe off on other boolits. No leading so far with this addition of Carnuba Red.

Not sure about the "harder" but I use it to 2500 fps all the time. Kind of depends on the amount of lube the grooves carry. I also "double" lube the bullets with the Lyman 450. That means I run the lubed bullet back down again into the lubra sizer and apply a tudge of pressure on the lube. This gets all air out of the grooves and compresses as much lube in them as possible. The bullets also come out with the lube much cleaner in the grooves.

Lars has done the improved 50/50 already with his 2500 lube.

Don't know how it differs from 50/50 but you can buy it off the shelf and it does work.

I use it as my every day lube.

he basically mixes 50/50 and carnuba red.
i use the same mix as him but with a touch of lanolin and parafin to make a soft hard lube.

You might just jazz up your 50/50 with some Carnauba (5%) to get it harder, and maybe a tsp. of Lanolin. As has been said Lars' lubes have pretty much covered this ground.

Exactly what a friend of mine does. He buys the Mexican religious candles in a glass from the dollar store for the wax. Heats and mixes it up with his store bought lube.

I thought that was his BAC lube, so are you saying BAC and 2500 are the same save for perhaps ratios of parts?

I don't notice a red hue to the 2500.

Clarify for me please.

Bac is a mix of 50/50 and carnuba red. That's what is posted on his web site. I use BAC for all my handgun loading. Went over to the "DARK SIDE" and now mix my own.

Using some alox 2138F that I aquaired from GAR before they closed I just made a batch of 60/40 beeswax/alox instead of 50/50 cause I wanted it a little harder, to that I added
2 tablespoons anhydrous lanolin, it mixed well and did not seperate upon cooling,
I haven't had a chance to try it yet, I will use the 50/50 in my lube sizer first.
I will report back when I use some.
