Hi,

I am thinking of getting the new Lyman Cast Bullet Reloading Manual if it has the information I need.

Does anyone know if it has data for:

335 gr. boolits in 38-55
535 gr. boolits in 45-70

and witch edition is it?

Thanks,

John

I have the Lyman "Cast Bullet Handbook" Third Edition, is this the manual you are talking about? If so I located the following info for you.....

.38/55 Winchester:
The only load data it shows for this caliber is a 249 grain bullet and a 269 grain bullet.

.45/70 Government:
It shows load data for several bullet weights for various brand rifles but no 535 grain bullet. The heaviest bullet is 464 grain bullet for Ruger #1 and #3 rifles.

If there is any other information that I can look up for you in this manual feel free to ask.

Sorry!

Jody

I believe that is the latest edition, but since I am looking for info on some really heavy boolits I guess I won't have to spend my money.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Lyman is working on a new cast bullet manual now scheduled to appear about January 2010. It will have more data like you're after and it will also have data for RCBS, Redding/SAECO, and Lee bullet designs. Perhaps not all of them but for some at least.

Lyman's 48th Edition Reloading Handbook:

Pg 270
Lyman 378674 - nominal 335gr
5 smokeless loading data

Pg 296 - (Springfield only)
Layman 457132 - nominal 535gr
7 smokeless loading data
Pg 301 - (Ruger #1 and 3 Only)
9 smokeless loading data

Their 49th Edition also has loading data for both bullet weights

If your interested in original gunpowder:
Lyman 378674 - 40 or 42gr FFg
Lyman 457132 - 68 or 70gr FFg

So, recommend you buy the Casting and Reloading books for good references on both subjects
