Oal for 135 gr. 9mm

I got one of the Mihec boolit molds for 135 gr. 9mm in a resent group buy. I have cast some boolits, but haven't loaded any. I was looking for what other reloaders were using for their OAL for a starting point. Thanks Don

really depends on your gun and the coating/lube you use.

some of my 9MM's eat most anything. start with your regular seating depth for that gun for a similar (125 grn + - ) boolit and go from there

I just looked through the closed group buys Sub-forum and didn’t see anything for a 135 grain 9mm bullet. Which exact mold is this? 135 grain bullets will have varying OAL depending on the shape of the nose. Even truncated cone (TC) bullets or RN bullets will have different OAL depending on how long the nose goes out.

FWIW I try to find the longest OAL that'll work in my guns irrespective of what other people use. If it fits my magazines, feeds and fits into my chambers I’m good to go. Sometimes it takes some trial and error. I just load up a round without powder or primer and see if it works. I can eyeball it and usually get within .01 or .02 and then tweak it from there.

It also depends on diameter you size your bullets to, a .359" bullet make take a shorter oal than a .356". All depends on the gun being loaded for.

Old School Method before OAL's were invented .

Seat it to where it looks about right ...but a skosh too long .
Do the plunk test using your guns barrel .
Keep seating boolit deeper until it passes the plunk test .
Keep that round (called a dummy) to use when you want to set up your seating die next time .
Usually a dummy is made up ...case w/boolit , no primer , no powder .

I could tell you what I use. But the chances of it working in your gun are less than 50%.

You see, I had my barrel throated by DougGuy so I could seat those bullets to a longer length.

If it is the flat point one then seat it so to where the nose is reduced diameter. You don't want the full diameter sticking out. The nose is reduced diameter so it will fit in most pistols because of the added diameter of the powdercoat.

I have that mold and my load is 4.2 ww231 sized .358 and loaded to 1.108 and it works in all my 9mms

Mine are sized to .357 and HiTek coated. I had to go a little shorter than John J. I found 1.095 gave me 100% function in all of my 9s. One of the bunch has a particularly tight chamber.
