141 years old this month

She turns 141 years old this month according to my Cody Letter. 1873 Winchester 44-40. She still goes Bang! 40 grains of Swiss 2F under a Buffalo Arms .429" 222 Grain Hollow Base 20-1 Cast Bullet. The barrel has just a little bit of putting, but for 141, I’d say she’s in ok shape.

Not meaning to hijack this thread but this one is about 125 years old according to Serial number. 38/40 and my great grandfather purchased it in Denver Colorado . It's been in this family since new.

Sweet!!! That’s great knowing the history on that old gun. Unfortunately all I know about mine is it came from a Estate auction in Southern GA. and it was manufactured in Aug. of 1879. I’ve owned it for around 4 years now I guess.

Very impressive smoke and fire, cool photo, how did you get that much black in a .44-40? Here I am shooting a slightly younger 129 year old .44wcf 1873 Winchester Musket. As I don’t have a Martini Henry to go with my British RE uniform I use the musket along with it’s socket bayonet. I’ll put this git up on in January to coincide with the Battle of Rorke’s Drift [January 22-23, 1879.] Love shooting these old pieces of history.

It would be nice but hardly competitive in a cas match. Plus it’s not a pistol caliber. Not that that really matters, I shoot these antiques for the fun of it. But I would shoot a Martini shotgun if I stumbled up on a decent one. I do have a Martini Wallace but it’s a NSW Cadet in .32-20/310. A real sweetheart to shoot and accurate once I figured out the odd case that it needed.

I too have been playing with a rifle that is about 141 years old (the best I can determine). Its an early #2 Remington rolling block. It was originally .44 rimfire, but is now converted to centerfire. It is essentially the same as the old .44 S&W American. It is similar to the .44-40, but a little shorter and uses an outside lubricated heel bullet. Here is a brief video I made at the range.

Thank You Sir! I love this one for sure. I’m just taking my time and seeing what works best with her. I’ve loaded up 10 more rounds to try out this weekend. 5 loaded with the Accurate 43-215C and then 5 that are loaded with a bullet that John had labeled Big Lube. It has a very wide lube groove. Hope to shoot them Saturday or Sunday.
