Just loaded 25 to test the new bullet and load. The seating punch is for the SWC. It puts a very slight ring around the RNFP bullet. Is this an issue?

Alternatively, I can use my .45 acp seating die to seat the bullet. It has the correct punch(different manufacturer, so won’t interchange). Is this ok? I tried about 5 rounds with it and, once adjusted, seemed to work. (I seat and crimp separately)

Or I think I can just order the correct punch fromRCBS...or buy a new die.

I have fired thousands of boolits in other calibers with that very same ring on the boolit. No issues at all. Ignore it.

I was losing sleep over the ring being pressed into the nose of my Lee .309 fp/170's, so I ordered a rn seating punch from rcbs. Actually, if I remember right, they sent it to me for free.

Take a pea sized lump of bullet lube, mix it into a similar sized lump of dryer lint. Pack that into the cavity of your seating punch.

Push it onto a bullet by hand, trim excess, reassemble.

Done. No more rings, nothing permanent, nothing that can not be undone if you need to.

And no more rings if it is done right.

if the lip that sticks down around the flat on the swc plug isnt even needed for anything just remove it. maybe others have differnt equipment or needs but anytime i grab my swc plug id rather have a full width flat. or fill with jb weld and sand flat.

i cant see any way the lip helps unless you loading a swc that exactly fits in the flat otherwise its just a dent maker far as i can tell.

Don't know what brand of reloading dies you are using. Get a spare seating stem for your seating die with any nose profile and fill the nose cavity with epoxy to make it flat. I use Lyman dies and have a spare (ebay) 38/357 seating stem (Lyman seating stem threads are all the same) with modified flat nose that I use with 40, 44, and 45 flat nose boolits. I hate to see a seating stem scar my pretty PC'd boolits.
