I'm going to cross dovetail a shortened model 10 barrel for the front sight. Some of the sights like Novak have a roll pin that is driven thru the sight blade into a hole drilled thru the slide to secure the sight once its been adjusted for windage. The slide hole goes all the way thru so you can tap it back out from underneath if you ever need to. On a revolver barrel that won't work. Is there any reason the hole in the sight couldn't be tapped for a set screw to help secure the sight, or is it really needed?

It should not be needed. Fit the sight to the dovetail slot so it enters about one third of the way, then press fit it the rest of the way. Test fire for windage as you go, and go slowly. You don't want to over-shoot the zero, as adjusting back will often loosen the sight.

I agree with Tatume. Although if the vertical hole is already in the sight I would tap it before fitting to the barrel, then spot drill a divot for the grub screw after sighting in. An empty hole just looks so unfinished.
