Does anyone know what the weight is of the recoil spring and hammer (mainspring) in a 5inch, Rock Island 9mm 1911. Thank you

Big Al-- thanks for posting that. As a old gunsmith I immediately thought, "18....no, is it 20 lbs.?" Really interesting to see RIA make a distinction by serial no. Mine is over 300,000, so now I know. Also, another fascinating takeaway-- it seems that they equate one coil to one pound. I've got a fairly largish small box full of old and new recoil springs, either taken out of guns I worked on or purchased in anticipation of need, but somehow they all got mixed in together with no labels. Maybe I can sort them out by number of coils. Thanks again for posting that link.

The factory hammer spring in an .45 1911 is 23 pounds and recoil is 16. I normally drop these to 14 and 19.

You're welcome Der Gebirgsager. Im going to have to check my S/N'S. I did replace 2 recoil springs in my 45's. One is older. I did use wolff springs. The guns are working great.
