Has anyone modified Lee 1 and 2 cav molds, so the handles could be removed????
Would save a lots of space.

I've taken the handles off one. I drilled a hole from the top of the mould down to meet the blind pin. Then I could punch it out. I did it so I could modify the blocks as they were damaged.

It could be done, but would be a lot of precision work to do and do right. locating the hole on top and drilling to the pin drive out. Then tap hole for screw. drill out handles. and install. And you still have threads in a soft grade aluminum

Just leave it, eventually they will fall apart.

Not worth the hassle. Graduate up to better molds and sell the Lee's. I own probably 15, but I am slowly transitioning to better choices. Only molds I will by from Lee are calibers I know I will use very rarely.

All my Lee molds are held to the handles with an Allen head screw from below. I Just grab an Allen wrench and unscrew them.

Older molds had a steel pin that was held in by staking the hole at the bottom. You can remove the staking easily enough but the pin is a tight fit and will not fall out. OTOH when casting my normal method is fill and then with sprue molten lightly drop mold on a hardwood block to ensure cavities fill. Have had pins come out when doing this.

Bout right, I've several moulds that the pins walk out when using. Finally got tired of one casting session and restaked it hot. That was a three handed operation.

Some of my Lee handles are removable. I have to knock them back in with my sprue whacker every few hundred casts. Sell'em to ya. $40. All custom.
