Not real exciting but picked this up and it still had at least a pound of powder for about 10 bucks.

I have one, but it's only 8 oz net weight. Can't recall where I got it. Only 2.5 oz of powder left.

700X is a very versatile powder, good in many pistol and reduced rifle cast loads. I've been using up a good quantity I got from my dad.

I have that one and a couple of the 8oz cans. Ihave the start of a decent old powder can collection but have never been able to upload a picture or would have posted them here before.

Neat old can. I'm still using the powder that came in mine.

The lady I got it from has a keg, big metal can, of it that has about 8lbs left. Have not tried loading this yet but hear it meters poorly in the dillon powder measures.

Most of what I've been shooting it in lately is .38-55, 7x57 and .45 ACP, but it seems to be a pretty good powder in applications where Red Dot would be good.

I have one that my dad bought in the 70's when we were loading shotgun. Weighs just under 3 lbs. now, been using it for 9mm and 45 acp plinking loads, little dirty but still goes bang and hits what I am aiming at.

Prior to 9/11, it was sold in 8lb. metal circular jugs. I gave 3 empty cans to a friend with a barn for display. My son was on a trap team and I went through a lot 700X in those years. Still do but not as much. It’s still my 12 ga. and 20 ga. target load powder and 45 acp for sub machine guns powder.

The lady I got this from still has a partial Keg of it too. I have heard it does not meter well in a dillon and since I bought 24 pounds or other powder from her I really do not need it.

It's good stuff in a lot of things, and powder isn't gonna get easier to find for a while. Figure out something to use it for and save your regular stuff.

I have 2 kegs from 1970. One is empty the other is full. Good for 45s About all I use it for.

In my lee pro 100, under about 3.3 grains is where I may get spotty metering. It is very bulky. Data exists for almost any handgun cartridge. It’s my cowboy action powder for 44 special, 44-40 and 45 colt. It will send a 357 lead 158 grain lead out at 1100 FPS. It works well as a blank powder in any handgun case, just fill it up and use a couple of card wads over the case. It usually makes enough pressure so the primer won’t back out. It works well as a smokeless blank powder in shot shells as well.

I purchased two 8 oz cans, of unknown vintage, last year. They were sealer with a bit of wax, if I recall correctly, and a good bit worse-for-wear. Every last grain seemed to function perfectly in my 45 Auto. 700x is the only pistol powder I have used so far. It's also worked well in 32 S&W, 32 Auto, and 9mm.

I suppose old tins are interesting to look at for a minute or two...but why not make something useful from them?

700X does not meter good in either my RCBS rifle measure or little dandy. But it has been good for accurate 45 ACP 185 grain lead SWC's.

I bought 24 pounds of powder from her. 17 of it for pistol. I am good for awhile. Just figure that with what I already have there is enough for 40K rounds. My son might be loading with it after I am gone.

I have a big can like that, snagged at a gunshow. It seems to have a lb or so and smells fine. One side has a long list of rounds, by Sharpy. 100 at a time and crossed off. Must add to couple thousand loaded.

Went through a bunch of that in the 80's & 90's loading 12 gauge target loads. IIRC I used to get it in 5lb containers with a pull up spout.

Actually, it is a very good powder, and I have heard that it meters like cornflakes. Does OK in my Dillon. The Lyman 55, not so much.

700x is good stuff.
I just make dippers from cartridge cases and wire and solder or epoxy to use aluminum cases.
Dippers are almost fast as a crank powder measure and don't need to zero it in.
Making a new dipper is quick and easy to change loads .Just need a scale to weigh the starting and final charge.
Good luck!

I have five powder measures and several scales & dribblers. However, I usually use Lyman Powder Scoops. I have both the old set and the newer set. They work fine. Easy to use and they are what I learned reloading on.

I wonder if you could mix it in melted paraffin for a smoke signal w/o problems

I think pop tops were replaced in the early 70's, maybe late 60's. Keep in mind, that was roughly 50 years ago, and my memory certainly hasn't gotten better over time.

I would think the pop tops made it to at least late 1977 based on the dates on the cans above. The old powder still works, currently using pop-top Herco in 16 gauge for skeet and sporting clays loads.

So do they still sell kegs to normal people?
