I have a sporterized Swedish roller that I picked up a couple years ago. The tang had been broken and welded somewhere in it's long life. I also have a 40-65 18 twist barrel off of rifle I rebarreled and a 40-65 reamer. The 8mm actually shoots pretty nice and is fun to shoot, but I'm feeling the need for a 40cal hunting gun. You guys know how that goes, DON"T YOU???????????????????????
I had actually thought about, maybe a 40-50 since it is going to be a deer rifle and I'm looking for light and won't shoot past 125 to 150 yds at the most. Since I already own the reamer and have all the goodies to shoot the 40-65, I thought it might be a waste to go to a new cal. just for the sake of having something else different to load for.
I was thinking of a new Treebone stock and turning the barrel half round and one of the Marble's Tang sights with the replaceable posts.
Any thoughts on any of the above?
It's not like I don't have enough projects.

................If you're going to be using smokless then the 40-50 would be ideal. Less case volume to work with, and exceeding BP 40-65 ballistics would be no strain. No flies on the 40-65, but for smokless work if you have the option the 40-50 would be the one I'd use.

either caliber would work fine with smokeless powder but the 49-65 will win with black powder. However, either will kill deer just fine no mater what you load them with.

Bob,
I like your idea for a 40-65 rolling block. It will make a dandy deer rifle.
I also have a 8mm Swedish roller so I will be very interested to follow the progress of your project.
