So, I loaded a box of 50 boolits in some of my new 350 legend brass and shot them out of my new Bear Creek Upper...
My boolit was an Accurate mold: 35-125 YG
This boolit is powder coated / gas checked and I did a coat of BLL since I was gonna push it kind of hard.
My COL is 2.035" - just about 0.01" off the lands. This leaves A LOT of room in the case.
Alloy is hard 15 BHN (4:1 WW to Lino).
I used WSR primers and W296 powder.
Data:
String wieght shot1 shot2 shot3 shot4 shot5 Min Max Spread SD
1 23.5 err err 2363 2149 2193 2149 2363 214 92.27
2 24 2155 2389 2154 2235 2231 2154 2389 235 85.63
3 24.5 2228 2389 2154 2235 2231 2154 2389 235 97.64
4 25 2139 2243 2302 2171 2335 2139 2335 196 74.59
5 25.5 2352 2365 2347 2494 2380 2347 2494 147 54.41
6* 26 2361 2415 2382 2414 2428 2361 2428 67 24.69
7 26.5 2421 2563 2495 2510 2575 2421 2575 154 55.02
8 27 2562 2533 2546 2563 2585 2533 2585 52 17.54
9 27.5 2581 2631 2619 2620 2608 2581 2631 50 17.03
10* 28 2644 2619 2687 2621 2688 2619 2688 69 30.44
The two * loads were particularly accurate.
I also think I might eek up the load to 28.3 or 28.5 and see what my numbers look like...
So, I was always told that W296 doesn't like air in the case. This data shows this to be true. After about 26 grain, I was getting closer to having a full case and it started burning less erratically.
I shot at 50 yards and my last 5 shots were all touching so I'm thinking that was the best accuracy-wise. I'm going to cast some of the 180 grain boolits and do some testing over the next few weeks. Will post that back too.
