I chose these two loads out of the 5 that I had pressure tested a few months ago.

First load was 40 grs of Steel under a BW 18(BP 18) wad and then the slug. All this was crammed in a 3@ Fiocchi hull and fold crimp. NowX for those of you that know me, knows I’m very particular and detailed about my finished crimps, since crimps play a large part in slug accuracy and is often overlooked. The crimps on these were rather domed and that bothered me. I figured the accuracy wouldn’t be great and I was right.

With 40 grs of Steel, pressure was really low, but the recoil was STOUT. Believe me. Shots were all over the place. I think if I tamed it down to maybe 35 grs, those groups will tighten up because I’ll have more room to crimp.

38 grs of Blue Dot tighten things up a bit:

Slow is accuracy for big slugs. Both these loads are 1400+ fps. I’m thinking slowing down 50 fps might be the key.

BT, is this the lead slug with the plastic base, 1 oz? Those are pretty much 1 holers for me at 50 yds but maybe talking different slugs. Slice a little off that 3/8" wad and try 38 gr Steel if they are. The steel loads are lower pressure but higher velocity vs other powders. My USH measures .731 which gets a little sloppy with some loads. Shoot a couple through that "Mooseburger" too. Y'all must be having a cold snap out there shooting the middle of July!

Brother, it’s 102 with a 112 heat index. My 3 mile run just turned into a two walk. [emoji28]

Yeah, we’re talking different slugs. This I what I’m talking about:

Yep, stout! Those are 1 1/2 oz IIRC and I loaded some as he was developing them. I was trying to run them about 1500 fps and just got over it....that was a couple of years ago. Good luck.

Were these new hulls? The BD looks good. Man those have to kick

I wonder if those smooth-sided slugs will slide in the sabot during launch. You could try roughing up the surface a little and see if it makes a difference.

Captain,

I think the slugs are fullbore diameter, no sabot. The ones I received from Uncle Dino were fullbore.

Cap’n,

BB is correct. These jokers are fullbore.

I should have looked more careful at the pictures. Perhaps my brain refused to accept a full bore 12 gauge jacketed bullet exist

Cap'n,

Your brian is correct, they shouldn't exist:shock:
