Have not been to a gun store since the Chinese Virus started. Went the other day and the handguns are few and far between. Asked if they could order a Ruger 1911 and was told the dealers would not take a special order at this time due to the demand. This is in Jefferson County Colorado. How is it in your all neck of the woods?

Empty here. Empty of guns. Empty of ammo. Empty of components. Actually that’s not completely true. 1 pound of International on a shelf that typically held at least 50 pounds.

our distributors have streamlined some of their catalogues. The odd rifle model here and there are missing from it now. Also no more Hodgon, Winchester or Alliant powder imports, remaining stocks only. Also we are being told the next major imports of ammo due August may be the last until the world sorts itself out.

Here too. One cannot be very picky about what type of gun he wants, either.

Less popular ammo is still available, too. Like .32acp.

I decided I “needed” a Model 639 S&W about 3 weeks ago. A couple of days waiting for auctions to run their course and I had one on the way to my FFL in another day. Price was a tad high but not panic-inspired. Haven’t been in a brick and mortar gun store since about December.

Guess I called it right when I topped off my powder stocks last year. :coffee:

Only thing I've blown it on is CCI Quiet. Went to replenish the ready-ammunition locker the other day, and "ooops". Thought I had much more of it lagered than I actually do.

It's all beginning to be reminiscent of the WW2 famine, which lasted well into 1947.

Between the virus and the social unrest the manufacturers can't keep up. Most distributors are out of anything remotely reassembling a self defense firearm.

Since February over 2 million new first time purchasers.

Burnt Fingers

Over 12 MILLION background checks in the first five months of this year.

That doesn't cover multiple purchases, or states where a CHL/LTC works in lieu of a background check.

That's more background checks in five months than total US firearms production in a year. The pipeline is damn near empty.

Well I find that there are still some decent buys if one is willing to look and wait , though I have also noticed fewer for sale and higher prices , seems that panic still rules .

I tend to see a decent price on components I stock up , have seen these cycles of higher price lower stock and out of stock before , I may not ever use all I have accumulated , but my kids shoot and they can enjoy what I do not use .

Local gun shop has a common sense policy on purchases , it is simply do not be greedy no matter who you are they are selling the smith and wesson victory package for $319 , thinking on getting one for the youngest son to use .

Myself I picked up some Springfield XDM and Xd mod 2 pairs in 45acp and some police trade in M&P smith and wessons in 45acp and in 40 s&w , all at or below pre panic prices . And have picked up more magazines for pistols when I find a low price , If these socialist anarchists get their way we will all wish we had got more .

We went to 2 gun stores today they have plenty of high end rifles & shotguns. Very few used guns unless they are high priced, single shots or double barrel. All the 20ga shotguns are sold out. The 20ga foster slugs are sold out. Not a standard pump shotgun around. All the 00 buck sold out. AR-15's & Mini-14 are $1,200. They have plenty of pistols but that's only because you need a pistol permit to buy them. Over all ammo selection is OK. I bought CCI quiets 2 weeks ago they sell for $8.99 box of 50. They have some mid range bolt action 22's and alike in the $400 range. They have nickel Stoeger coach guns in 12ga and that funny looking 12ga broom handle Remington Model 870 TAC-14. Both about $600-700.

Our local guy looked like normal, plenty of everything, and more or less decent prices.

No idea what his recent sales were, but at a glance, it appeared the same as going in there last year.

I frequent a couple gun shops in my area and handgun sales are thru the roof. I bought a rifle at one of them and had to leave and come back later as they use computers to do the form 4473 and they have 3 of them there was a waiting line that would a taken more than a hour for me to get checked out. I asked when their least busy time was and they said about 5 PM so I came back then. Even though there were many less people in the gun store there was still 2 people buying handguns ahead of me. I was at another shop in MI a couple days ago and they had people waiting in line to get checked out with gun purchases. It’s pretty crazy but the old guns I’m looking for I have been finding bargains on and buying them.

Who's your local shop?

It's on 198 in Mabank, a little ways down from Hi-way 175, on the top end of Cedar Creek Lake about 60 miles East of Dallas.
Its a small shop called 'On Target'.

I like 'em, and will pay a extra buck or two to buy from them and help keep them there rather than buying on line.

Ammo and components for 9mm and .40 S&W are completely gone for 50 miles out here. Some bullets for .223 available, but no cases, primers, or loaded ammo.

Haven't paid attention to firearms, really. I called my nearest Blue Label Glock dealer looking for a Gen 4 G23 and he said none are available in the system.

Ya'll are doing it wrong. Just go to a gun show and use that "gun show loophole" where you can buy anything ya want, no problem. Easier than that yet, just order one online. It's easier to get a gun online than a puppy don't ya know.
get with the program guys, just ask a liberal how it's done, they'll tell ya.

I suppose it depends on what you're looking to buy. Around here,
the 9mm/223 crowd is really thin. But the 45acp/308 folks have
stuff to pick from. Most of the people in this area had what they
wanted already. There is still a lot of variety in the heavier big
game stuff also.

Plenty of guns around my AO. I think most folks are already well armed here. Gunbroker seems to have plenty but prices are up a bit. Just picked up a made in 1987 minty Super Blackhawk off GB for $525. Hoping she has no issues.

The shelves are bare in LA. Even the Pawn shops are empty.

...and the size of the concealed carry classes at the local outdoor range is ridiculous. I think there were 20 people, which seems excessive to me...and was all one particular “ cultural group ”. Not much one on one instruction for the newbies.

Unless you have your heart really set on it I would avoid the ar-7 .
I've had 4 and my dads owned 2 and we both have sold all of them and moved on to a take down ruger 10/22 and a marlin papoose.

I cant really recommend the 10/22 take down for its bulk but the papoose is the bees knees, slap a set of tech sights on it and you really have a good packable rifle. I get awesome groups at 50 yards with them

For guns and ammo the worst of it is right now. Up until a few weeks ago pretty much anything was available. Over the last month all the popular self defense items have disappeared or gone up in price noticeably.

Buds website has no 9mm available and any .223 ammo is $1.00 per round.

On the plus side right now is a good time to sell anything you’ve been considering getting rid of.

Liberal = Hypocrite. These are the same people that complain about the purchase process. They are appalled when they find out they have to wait days, in CA, because they are a good citizen and should be able to buy one immediately.

Not being prepared seems to be the
MO for the majority of Americans. This goes for having a firearm to protect yourself all the way down to having enough supplies to ride out a storm that knocks everything out for a few days. Sad state of affairs

Truth. A lot of liberals simply don't want to know the truth. My son and his girlfriend live in Seattle and I asked him how the riots/CHOP thing was going a month or so ago. He had no idea. He lives in that city and works downtown and had no interest in knowing how bad things were getting. I offered him a compact 9mm pistol to have handy and he refused it; said he doesn't need a gun. I certainly hope he's right.

“Better to have, and not need, than to need, and not have." People really don’t plan ahead. I know far to many don’t have a fire extinguisher in, or close to, the kitchen. A gun is no different. You want to have it in advance of a situation where you actually need it.

I was at LGS Tuesday to ship some S&Ws I had sold. This is small shop in rural Ohio but I would say he’s got 75 new auto pistols. Maybe a dozen new SA low end. Used in good revolvers he only had one S&W 38sp. Plenty black rifles and parts. Only ammo he was down on was 22s. That’s his fault. These new gun people buy 223s and 9mm as their first guns. That’s his major customers so he doesn’t stock a lot of 22s.

I went to a estate auction last weekend just down the road from me. They had about 9 or 10 guns in the auction and because it was at the persons home there was no sales tax and no paperwork on any of the gun sales.
The guns were the first items they sold so I got a bid number and watched. I am usually amazed by the crazy prices that people bid on guns and this sale was almost enough to choke on.
I am going to give you a example of what I seen in 10 or 15 minutes before I left and went home.
2 - Belgium Browning A 5 12 ga. both field grade 80 - 90% condition and both plain barrels, The first one had a un fitted recoil pad added that was 1/4” proud of the stock, sold for $ 1375.00 the second one that was just like the first but had a hard buttplate went for $ 1400.00 AND TO THE SAME GUY WHO BOUGHT THE FIRST ONE !
A nice Marlin 39 A that had the checkered stock, $ 1000.00, A plain barrel average condition Ithaca M 37 12 ga.
$ 470.00 and a no name 22 bolt action tube fed rifle for $ 250.00.
I honestly would not have given even half of what any of those went for, I was shocked !
The same auction company is having another auction this Saturday about 30 minutes from me with 188 guns for sale,
I am not going to go and waste my time. I have bought 7 guns for myself in the past month or so and got them for really good prices besides having to pay sales tax but a few shops near me are getting in a lot of old guns and selling them at prices from 10 years ago and I keep buying them.

Things around here are bout half like normal. Academy is low on guns and ammo but the local store with higher prices seems normal. Pawn shops I frequent are out. But that's because you can bring in a stereo/guitar/jewelry/electronics and trade it in on a gun.

Then there is the gov check and the unimployment extra, many folks probably used it to buy a first or new to them gun.

Lots of handguns on Gunbroker and some good deals too. Going to pick up a Ruger SB at my ffl tomorrow. Made in 1987 and in 99% condition. Cost with shipping and transfer $550. Have a 4" 1956 vintage K-38 Combat Masterpiece in nearly perfect shape coming next week. $650. These both came from small rural dealers. Seems we are entering a time when older guns are hitting the market. Good time to find a classic.

Was working tonight when one of the young guys came in and asked if I reloaded. I tentatively replied that I did. He said his wife and he got their first gun a couple of months ago and she stopped by the LGS and asked for 9mm bullets.

They sold her a box of Hornady XTP 9mm bullets rather than the ammunition she needed. He asked me if I wanted to buy them from him.

Last time I was there, they were completely out of 9mm ammo and bullets, so I said sure. No matter what weight they are, I'll find a use for them.

Watched 5 ar pistols sold at the local shop , all to young black guys . They like the short barrel and wrist brace that extends to make it where you can shoot it like a rifle . They said they are legal to carry in a car like a handgun but function as a rifle. Wonder why they are doing that all of a sudden ? The .300 Blackout seems to be the popular caliber .

This is why nomenclature matters. Bullets are the projectile and not the loaded round.

It's not all of a sudden. It's been going on for almost a decade. The braced pistol has it's advantages. It's smaller than a rifle. It can be carried loaded in a vehicle in many states where carrying a loaded rifle would be illegal.

One could pay the tithe to the King and have an SBR but then you need to as permission to move it across state lines.

I've got two complete AR pistols, as soon as my brace shows up I'll have a braced Ruger Charger 22 LR version, and I'm looking for a 10" 7.62x39 upper to build another pistol.

Hopefully I’ll get to the Raleigh show next weekend but I’ll wear a mask. Can’t imagine how they could social distance as its usually wall to wall. Don’t really need anything but would love to go but haven’t totally made up my mind. I wisely stocked up on powder, primers and .22s after they came back from the last draught. The pawn shop/gun store that does my transfers has plenty of firearms.
