I've read everything I can find on 45 Colt loads for lever guns and tried a few different loads including 8gr Unique, 9.5gr HS-6, 8gr BE86, and 18gr IMR4227
by far the 4227 was the best so far and I like the way it took up case volume, it was right at 1200 fps over the chronograph. I have quite a few different powders I could try. has anyone tried 300mp in 45 Colt? I guess what I'm after is a load that is somewhere between the load for an antique and the Ruger only load.. I would like to be at maybe 1300-1400fps out of the 20" octagonal barrel as long as it is safe and is not too punishing on the shoulder.
