I'm getting closer to completing that dreaded point forming die after 4 attempts. I know that boat tail bullets shoot best @ long range, at least in my .308 win caliber remington. But im just going for a good average flat base bullet for my home made bullets. Any opinions or hard facts that you all have experienced would be helpful.

I probably have as much money tied up in this die that I would spent on having BT Sniper just build me a perfect one. Instead, I'm being stubborn and going to settle on a descent shooting one at best:veryconfu

What are you using for jackets?

Not limited by length of jacket, the weights can be what your twist can stabilize.

My experience is with .380, 9mm, and 5.7x28 brass jackets.

150 grain bullets are good, yeah boring,....everybody shoots 150's.

The shorter the bullet the easier it is to form wrinkle free, and just that much less to push back out of the die.

Another question for all the .308 swagers, how deep is your 30 cal. point forming die? from the tip to the base. I made a D-bit out of a long 5/16" shanked center drill. its hard and tough. I fashioned an angle grinder to the tool post on the baby south bend lathe to cut the d-bit in half. it made a nice dished profile to the bit.

1.150 makes a fine 175 grain 6s bullet.

Both 9mm and 38 special cases can make 308 jackets

My 30 cal point form die is close to 1 3/4" deep.

Randy Robbinet of BIB makes a 187grain flat base bullet. That's the biggest Flat base I've ever heard of in a 30 caliber.

With plenty of recoil I would imagine.
