I just picked up a ruger 96/44. I'd like to try the lee 310. Does anybody have any experience with this boolit or the Ranch Dogs in this application.

I got one of these molds about 5 months ago and have been using it in both my .44 Magnum Ruger SBH with 7 1/2 barrel and a Puma 92 rifle.

I've found that my lead/tin mix casts a bullet about 304grs, so guess it is a little on the hard side. I've been using AA#9 w/18.5 grs, CCI LP primers and Win cases and Lyman GC.

Out of the pistol is get an average of 1275 fps about 10 feet from the muzzle, the same load from the 24 in barrel rifle gives me 1657 fps.

The loads out of both weapons doesn't give me my best groups, about 4 inches at 50 yards. I'm still working on this project, but this should give you a starting point.

This load was provided with some Trueshot 310 gr WNFP GC. Both their's and mine were sized to .430. They listed this as a max load and 1285 out of a Rugar Vaquero. I suspect if I'd corrected my load to muzzle it would have been about the same. They also suggest a starting load of 16.6 gr with a listed M/V of 1172 fps.

I use the Lee 310 gr. and 296 powder and this boolit does real well in my Marlin 1895 CB. I also use this boolit and 296 powder in my Ruger SBH. I modified one of the mold cavities so I would have the option of G/C or no G/C.

The only restriction you will have is if the loaded rounds will fit in the rotary magazine. It might be a good idea to have someone send you one Lee boolit to see if it fits. Seems to me it should because of the two crimp grooves.
I have many boolits that would not fit the .44 Ruger auto magazine but I shot them single shot. The gun belongs to a friend so I don't have one here to check the Lee boolit for you.
The gun shot many heavy boolits very good if loaded directly in the chamber.
The short magazine is the one failure Ruger has.

Use the Ranch Dog in the 96 44, the Ruger carbine and Puma 92.
With twenty grains of H110, NO leading and good accuracy.
The bores look as though you cleaned them after many rounds.
I use thined Alox and paste wax on the 265 RD.
No need to shoot any other boolit.

Life is good
