Hodgdon #26 Manual - Help with 45-70 BL-C(2) Load?

I head that Hodgdon manual #26 has a BL-C(2) load for the 45-70.

I use BL-C(2) for both 308 and 30-30 with great results. It would be a bonus if I can use it for the 45-70 however I would prefer to not load if it has not been done before.

I would greatly appreciate if someone could share the load with me.

years and years ago I saw a guy shoot a full case of it in the .458 Mag. From what I saw I don't think it generated enough chamber pressure.

Trap door data jacketed bullets BL-C(2) 405 grain bullet 35 grains for 1354 @ 16,400 cup
500 grain bullet 35 grains for 1191 @ 17,600 cup

Ruger or 1895 Marlin only jacketed bullets
385-405 grain bullet 58 grains for 1786 FPS
500 grain bullet 53 grains for 1623 FPS

I thought the same thing about both of those loads. Kills on one end and maims on the other.

These would be lead bullets since it is Trap Door data. Fired with a 26" test barrel, it lists only the above as a Maximum Load with no Starting Load data.

Those loads may not be that bad after all. I tried a Marlin 1895 with near max loads and that was about all the fun I could stand.

Interesting the 25th edition has the same numbers but specifies for jacketed bullets. And is also labeled trap door loads.

Yeah, I don't know what is up with that. But, if you think about it, are they going to shoot a 500 grain Dangerous Game bullet designed for the .458 Magnum in a Trap Door? I think not.

Seems like the range is 35gr to 58gr for 1895.

Need to chronograph the loads.
