Was at H & H in Maple Lake MN today and they had a nice color case hardened Super Blackhawk. At $919 the price was a little stiff but I could offer less. What self respecting cast shooter does not have a .44 mag?

So not so bad for a brick and mortar store.

I wish I bought the Turnbull SBH in 45 LC when they were out.

I settled for this one instead:

Found it on Gunbroker. Minty 1987 vintage. Picking it up tomorrow. Was $500 less than the Turnbull would have been.

I "had" one of those. Bought it used from some dealer in Philadelphia. Cost $195 +shipping. Some idiot had stored it in a leather holster and it had rusted the barrel and cylinder. I tried shooting it and almost destroyed my middle finger with that squared off trigger guard. I only bought it because I wanted to try a .44 mag.

Finally sent it off to Jack Huntington to make a 5 shot .45Colt with his reshaped grip frame. Now I can shoot it without much pain. Let us know how yours shoots?

Shot it today with 240 gr. powder coated .431" boolits over 9 grains Unique. Very nice medium warm load that was very accurate to boot. The loads give a nice satisfying pop without discomfort. No need to look for anything else. And the gun will never wear out shooting these either. Nice when a new revolver shoots cast great right away.

I bought a SBK in 44 mag many years ago for $160. Most unpleasant to shoot and just too big for a hang gun. A co worker offered to trade me a BH 357. I jumped on the deal. I even got some money to boot. I still have it.

Over the years I have put a lot of rounds down range with Super Blackhawks. The recoil never bothered me that much and I had a knack for hitting with them. Probably won't shoot full power loads with this one, my hands are not as strong as they were. 9 grains of Unique is enough to let you know it's not a .357 and plenty good for deer I'd guess. Looking forward to trying it on the 100 yd. gong.

Nice purchase. I bought a SBH in the late 60's and have shot all handloads. Many of them would curl your hair and it doesn't show any wear, other than a little flame cutting to the top strap. I don't think you could wear it out if you tried. My pistol has broken a couple pairs of grips and given me a beating more time than I can count. Enjoy your new pistol, it's a great pick...
