Krag magazine disassembly

Can someone tell me the way to disassemble the magazine on an 1898 Krag? Yes, I know I can google it, but I’d rather just ask you people- and by that I mean......you people.

Honestly, I've never had mine apart. I think it starts by pulling the hinge pin, at least it looks somewhat easily removeable.

I found it in an old JB Wood book in my dusty " archives". Not hard to do, I just needed the method explained so I wouldn't hurt 120 year old parts.

Close the magazine box door.
Place a soft jaw clamp across the magazine door to the opposite side of the rifle.
One jaw will be on the magazine door itself. The other jaw will be on the left side magazine 'cover' plate.
(If you don't have a soft jaw clamp like one of those squeeze bar clamps to do this,,you can easily do the operation in a bench vise with padded jaws.)

The idea is to carefully squeeze the the magazine door inward just a bit. It doesn't take very much!
This compresses the magazine spring inside and relieves the tension on the Hinge Pin.

Now tap the Hinge Pin out of the magazine assembly.
Once the Hinge Pin is out,,take the Clamp off of the magazine (or the rifle out of the bench vise),,and the magazine door, follower and spring will be free to be removed from the rifle.

When reassembling, use the same technique with the clamp or vise to gently and ever so slightly compress the magazine spring and it's follower to the point where they & the door line up with the hinge pin and the pin can be inserted and tapped home.
It should not take a lot of effort to disassemble or re-assemble.

Drawing from my dusty memory, the hinge pin is the key to the whole thing. It has a little nub or wing on it, and with the loading gate closed if I recall correctly you tap it upward. This rotates the kind of a wing on the bottom out of its locked position. Now, pressing inward on the loading gate with medium pressure you tap the nub toward the muzzle. There is a curved spring inside the gate that provides the driving force for the follower, so pushing inward a bit and keeping the pressure on while driving out the pin makes it easier. Once the pin is out you can release the pressure and the gate and the spring will probably fall off onto your bench. Next is the follower, and that swivels in a hole in the receiver, and just lifts out. And-- that's about all there is to it, or so I recall. You know the famous instructions: Reassemble in reverse order. Honestly, it's pretty easy when you get the hang of it.
