Shooting dad's trapdoor on Father's Day

I guess I'm making it a bit of a tradition to shoot dad's favorite rifle on Father's Day. I lost him in february 2018. Shooting the lee 405HB with pyrodex. Sure is fun hitting the metal swinger, even at 50 yards offhand Im surprised at the accuracy of the worn-out old girl. Also shot at a salt block and found the bullet fragments laying in front of it.263958263959263960263961

It (the rifle) does not look too bad for a worn out Springfield.
Yes! Shooting one of our father's rifles is always good for the sole. Especially on Father's Day.

Last 4 inches of the barrel has very worn rifling. Still a lot of fun and yeah a little therapeutic.

It is a blessing to have items from a dad. To use them does bring up memories.
With that Buffington sight I would guess an 1884 model.

thanks fellas. Yes its a 1884. This brings up a memory. We were at the Tulsa show and he stopped at a table with some trapdoors. Another guy was standing there and dad proceeds to talk about the 1884 and the army long range trials. This guy listened patiently and slipped in he was a very accomplished national-level BPCR shooter (I wish I could remember his name); dad paused, then proceeded to explain the ballistics of the 45-70 cartridge... oh my, he was a hoot.
