Finally got enough saccrificial boolits under my belt to get some decent enough to try at the range.

400gr cast lead bullets, SWC Keith style.

29gr of IMR4227 netted 1520fps avg vel and appr .5" @ 50.

Recoil was a gentle push.

Need to tune the load a little and stretch it to at least 100-200 yards but feel pretty confident with it for a whitetail load.

@ 200 yards will be hitting with appr 1k ft/lbs.

Interested in your project. I've been buying Bear Creek Arsenal uppers like they're going out of style, working on a couple of 6.5 Grendel right now (not for casties, though). 450 Bushmaster has my attention... Will be watching. Thanks for posting.

What twist do you have and bolt or gas?

Thanks!

Barrel is an 18" 1:16 from Rhineland that I put on a Savage Axis that used to be a 223.

Watching this too!

I have made some dummies with a 385 Lyman. But they need to be so deeply seated I didnt see the advantage. For me and strictly me I have 45/70's able to be loaded to all levels so no real necessity to push this delightful med sized 45.

But thats ME, interested to see what upu can do and what you discover.

I like a 330g Gould HP bullet with 5744. I couldnt get good accuracy at the target 1400 but at 1650 it shoots touching holes @ 100. With air WW that might be lil fast.

I have a pair of assembled 450B's, a 16" Carb gas and an 18" Mid gas and both 1-24. Both pushing just over 2200 with Hornady ammo and honest 1 1/2" groups @100. Something about this cartridge tickles me even with the cherished variants here in the classic 45-70. I am constantly talking myself out of a levergun build in it. The 18" bolt gun with a faster twist for lead fatties sounds like a fun road, keep us up on your adventures!

The Ruger Ranch in 450 looks good to me. You would really burn through the lead though.
