Is it neccesary to use gas checks when firing 10 gr. of unique powder?thanks mike

Assuming that's the S&W model #329 in 44 mag with a 240 grain bullet I'd say no.
You don't need a gas check in any 44 mag pistol load.

Ive shot 10 gr of Unique in the 30-06 and 54R without a GC with good results.

if it is a g/c mold the 10 gr load might be right on the edge to start.
you will wanna run those boolits a bit bigger then your bbl size,this really helps when you are using a g/c design without g/c's.
try to get them as big as will chamber and leave a thou or so for neck expansion.
