For my Pedersoli Sharps 34" barrel. From left 520gn @.458", 405gn @.458" balls. 65gn spanish BP nr.2 (similar to the swiss nr.3), 2mm compression, beeswax and tallow 1:1 grease, tetrapak wad and no crimp for all.
I'll use for 200m shooting, what do you think?

Looks good to me. Report back on how they shoot.

I'll do it, thank you.
Just a doubt about wiping the barrel after each shot, at this moment I used a wet patch followed by a dry one, but I'm not sure if this is the best solution. I'll try to use a dry patch only.

My BPCR shooting right now consists of an 1887 mfg 1884 Trapdoor. Because I can only wipe from the muzzle, I opt to blow tube and then swab with a wet followed by dry patch every 5-10 shots. It works for me. I'm getting 4" for 10 shots at 100 yards with a 405gr hollow base. I'm hoping the 500gr boolit I'm going to try soon will work a little better.

Delrin wiping rods are flexible enough to clean from the breech. Been using on for the last ten years.

Duly noted, and I'm eager to try this.

I’m sure there are others, but here’s one place:

I use RTV silicone to glue on the metal end fittings then cross pin the fitting with a small nail filed and sanded flush.
Mine are for muzzleloaders cross pinning is vital in this application.

What about a Hoppe's Boresnake? I have one and it works good.

Send belted/arnie a PM he makes a very good one ready to use for the trapdoors.

Here my grouping test @200m, Pedersoli Sharps "Q" and the Postell cartridges. I have used the boresnake to wipe the bore, I'm satisfied because it's my first time with this Postell that I get a good group (I bought the Sharps about 6 months ago). Thank you Lead pot to give a very useful information.

That is a good start now do a ladder load.
Increase your powder load one grain three loads each from about .075" compression to .270" 1.90mm to 6.85mm. Change nothing else and shoot the 3 shot groups.
You will see the best load starting when you finish the 3 shot ladder loads then work with it to improve it.
Usually about 21 rounds shot you will something that looks good.

Hi Lead pot, following your advice I prepared 15 cartridges with different loads and different compression: 65gn, 66gn, 67gn. It seems that 65 and 66gn with about 3 and 4mm compression gives more consistent results. The target was at 200m, the Postell bullets are made with the Lyman #2 alloy, but I want test a softer one.

That's starting to look very good with the vertical.
What are you using for primers?
I see in Europe they tend to use a hot Magnum primer and I also have used them in the past but but switched to a lesser heat primer that gives me better results.
With a GG bullet like the Postell or other blunt nosed projectiles I like a 1/20 or 1/25 tin/lead alloy.

I'm using the Federal @210 primers. I agree with you: I don't like the magnum primers, in my opinion there is no good reason to use it with good black powders.
The next time I'm going to try the rounded nose bullets from the Lyman @457125 mold and 1 part of pure lead + 1 part of Lyman #2, the resulting hardness is about 11.6.

I think that this kind of rounded nose bullet could group well at medium distances, maybe at 200 and 300m.

Hi all, this is the most recent result of my testing the Lyman Postel at 200m. I'm satisfied, the cartridges work well, I have just a problem with wiping the bore, because the higher posterior sight: I have to clean the bore from the muzzle. No problem for this because I'm using a nylon device to protect the muzzle, in the perfect style of the muzzleloading rifles, but the chamber sometimes remains dirty. So, in alternative I'm using the "bore snake" inserting it from the breech, but after 3 shot I have to use the cleaning rod again. Any advice?

In the future I'd like to give a try to the paper patch bullets, any advice for my Pedersoli Sharps 45-70?

Just fold that sight down on the buttstock and wipe/clean from the muzzle.

Try a blow tube after each shot to soften the fouling!

Claudius,
My Delrin rods do flex enough to do your wiping and cleaning from the breech.
Includes a bore guide so you don't rub on your tang sight.
Works even for a Trapdoor Springfield or a Martini rifle. Also a Flex Jag adaptor for the TDs to help further

Beltfed, I think that the Delrin rod should be the best compromise.

I use a blow tube between my shots using my Pedersoli Sharps equipped with a MVA buffalo soule tang sight.
When the 35 shot match is done I clean from the breach using a flexible rod!

Hi all, here a good grouping with my Pedersoli Sharps. The first 3 shots on the left: cold barrel. The Lyman Postell and the Lyman #2 alloy work great at 200m, 5 shots in 2" group.
