My beast got to speak today , got my P-17 back from my gunsmith on Monday , had it chambered in 308 Norma Mag. built up 100 rds. of brass , loaded them with IMR4227 and 150 and 170 gr. cast. loaded me and stuff in the rig and off I went. Got a bunch of strange looks because the (old) rifle but had fun fireforming the brass.n the old rifle shot very good with just thrown gether loads. final trim neck size and start building cast and jacketed test loads.

You should be proud with that conversion, 60's and 70's that was all the rage. Please treat that Model 1917 US Rifle with the respect it deserves, don't "P" on it!:bigsmyl2: You got the "beef"right there had one in org 06, then 6.5 Rem Mag and 375 H&H, that action is ready for anything.

I got a 98 k Mauser built in 308 Norma mag. The barrel is at least 1” at the muzzle very heavy . The stock is kind of weird. The but stock looks fine but from the trigger guard to the end of the stock looks like sombody glued two 2/4 together maybe three. Also the stock has Ben inletted So much around the barrel That it looks like a 5 year old did it. In stead of taking a pice of paper under the barrel up and down the stock to check for clearance. You can take probably take 20 pieces of paper under the barrel, there’s that much room. Well it shoot amazing. Got the gun with scope powder ,dies, brass , And two boxes of bullets. Also got a 25/06 Mauser Scope ,bull barrel, brass powder ,bullets also with the deal. That also shoots amazing. Got To go out and shoot some more. Do you all take 300 wn mag Brass and size with the Norma mag die? That’s what the guy told me he did when he had the gun. He gave me some already loaded that shot fine actually great at 100 yards. Just never loaded for the 300 Norma mag yet. Also got the dies for the 25/06 also with the gun. Probably got in them what two Savage axis Cost. So I thank i did good

I also got imr 4227 to load with. But I think I got the 170 and 200 gr bullets in my deal to load with. Also got a tube of imperial sizing die wax with the components . My rifle is ugly but it shoots great. Let us know the load you end up using.

Yes Jniedbalski I used 300 win mag brass to form my 308 norma brass . run it through a 308 norma die, trimmed to length, fireformed , retrimmed if needed, neck sized , heads are blackened with brass black to keep them seperate from my 300 win mag. now have to see which slugs that I have to cast more of.
