Has anyone slugged enough M9 military barrels and USA-made civilian barrels to know whether they have a groove diameter closer to .355? My Italian barrel is .358 in the grooves. It's accurate enough since I know how to deal with the larger bore, but if the military or U.S. barrels tend to have a tighter groove diameter I'm considering trying to find one with a buggered muzzle (i.e., cheap) and cutting it off to the correct length for my compact.

My Beretta (92 ??) has a .3575 bore. but I can load .358 and it feeds and functions fine. Apparently the chamber was cut with the larger dia in mind. The larger bullet made a big difference in accuracy for me.

NATO barrels are .3470x.3565 +0.0015/-0.0000, so a .357 bullet is correct for most but some guns will take as large as .358

I have slugged barrels on 4 different Beretta 92/M9 pistols. All measured .357 or slightly over by my micrometer.
The chambers in all instances would accept a .359 diameter boolit.
I size my boolits to .357 because I have other guns with match chambers. That size works fine in the Beretta barrels. Good accuracy. No leading.
These guns are designed to work with whatever ammunition is available, even if it is a bit dirty. Hence the larger chambers.
I think you could feed gravel in mine.
