Overall, from mousefart to mastodon manglers, you'll do fine with Bullseye, Unique, 2400 and H4895. Granted there are other powders matching the burn rate of these that some guys will prefer but those 4 along with real black powder cover almost everything I load & shoot these days.

+1 on Roy's choices but I also use a lot of H4198 in my straight-wall rifle cartridges.

Without doing some digging, you don't see much about Red Dot and how versatile it is.

It fits a bunch of handgun and shotgun loads.
Do a search (that will take ya to a lot of archives) for 'The Load' for cast in rifles, especially .30 cal.

Bluedot.

Shotgun, Handgun, and Rifle.

Maybe 3031 too for rifle. Everything else is extra that I won't cry if it's gone forever.

HS6, H110, Bullseye, Unique, 2400 and some True Blue pretty much in that order for handgun loads. IMR4831 for 270 Winchester. Clays, Longshot and Steel for shotgun. It has been awhile since I loaded for anything other than handgun.

I mainly load handgun with a few .30 and .303 rifles thrown in .
The first 5 powders were my basic's for decades , the last big powder shortage introduced me to the value of Accurate Powders #2 , #5 and #7 plus TiteGroup and the good old 700X .
I now have a very good supply of these 10 powders ... not going to get caught short again .

1. Bullseye
2. Unique
3. 2400
4. Red Dot
5. HP38 / 231 (same powder now)
6. Accurate #2
7. Accurate #5
8. Accurate #7
9. TiteGroup
10. 700X

OK, I like a lot of the powders called out here.
BUT!!!! my #1 powder is IMR 4064.
I load it in all of my 30-06 loads.
All of my 308, to 7mm08.
In most of my loads for pistol is
Bullseye.
Right now I am loading a 270 with IMR4064.
and right out of the box the load is 1inch at 100 yds.

I like AA 7 and 9 for heavy pistol rounds... 296 for 44 mag. Varget for all the scary black guns. 335 for the gun that will shoot through a buffalo length-wise (varget works too).

Then there is unique that can be used in all lever guns and revolvers for 'medium' loads and trailboss for 'light' loads.

2400 is great for medium to ruger load 44 mag as well as nice light 45-70...

Love me some W231(HP38) and for grins anything is interesting and a light load over trail boss.

My two most-used target pistol powders are Bullseye and HP38/WW231 (counts as just 1.) I also like Unique, 2400, and AA #7 for a little more oomph.

Aside from reusing the 2400 and Unique from above for rifles, add the discontinued 4759, especially for schuetzen and also discontinued Hogdon H108, which I am told can be approximated with AA #9.

Round out my group of 10 with Green Dot for my 20 gauge loads and there’s my list! Note that there can be a lot of spillover of the some of the powders I list for long guns to use in handgun rounds.

Bonus powder to the list = fffg Black for all my front stuffers and other N-SSA uses. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

If I could only have 4 or 5 for cast it would be these.
Bullseye, HP-38, Unique, 2400. Those will cover in a pinch for 32 long, 327, 38 special, 44 special, 44 mag, 45acp, 45 colt, 30cal rifle and my 5th one is 5744 for 30 cal rifle and 45-70 rifle.
These may not be the best in any one caliber but I could make do if I had to.

My favorite pistol powder is Blue Dot, when I couldn't find any a few years ago I stumbled on BE86. Great pistol powder and much cleaner than Unique. H110 for serious Mag loads and Trail Boss for fun plinking loads. For Rifle it would 3031 - 4831 - 4350 with a little H380 thrown in for the 22-250 and 25-06. My 22 Hornet loves H110 or Lil Gun.
