So i decided to cast up some boolits for my 270 Winchester rifle.

the rifle is a marlin XL rifle that has maybe seen 50-100 rounds shot out of it in its life.

so i casted up some Lee 135 gr boolits at a BHN of 17-18 and put on a gas check and tumbled lubed them.

the load was 12gr of Unique witch gave very consonant velocity's of around 1575 FPS
but the groups were around 3" with my gun and nearly the same with a 270 tikka T3 of my cousins.

so i have a few questions.

can i go faster with this bullet? should i go faster with this bullet gas checked at this BHN?

what should i expect from a 270? for group sizes

Im getting 1 to 2 inch groups at 80 yards with that boolit lubed with Lyman Orange Magic sized .2795-.280. I am also testing the RCBS 270-150. The Lee is loaded with 10 grains of Red Dot and 32-34 grains of W748, same with the RCBS. I find the heavier I go with the 1/10 twist in my rifle, the better it gets. Keep it at 1500 to 2000fps for best accuracy.

I use the same bullet of a BHN 10 to 12. I get MOA at 2050 FPS with RX7. Lowest velocity I still got good accuracy was 1650 FPS with powders like Red Dot, Unique, and Tight Group.

Never had much much luck with tumble lubes. I like the soap based lubes.

It gave me fits jammed into the lands. I seat my bullets about .004 off the lands and havent had problems since.

Rifle is a Savage Axis 2 chambered in .270 Win. Brass is what ever I find sorted by head stamp then weight. I don't really find much .270 brass so I end up sizing down 30-06 cases.

what kinda powder charges were you running at around 1650 FPS with unique and red dot?

i was basicly looking for 1-2" groups enough to be worth while entering into the local cast bullet shoots, and to get a little more practice on the rifle.

10 grains of Red Dot is around 1500fps, 13 grains is around 1700.

would wiping the alox off the exposed part of the bullet once there loaded into the the cases?

Ryan, I don't have that answer. Ive only used traditional lube through lubrisizer.

What about cast in the “baby .270”-AKA 6.8 SPC? Has anyone tried it?
