I had a real good day casting HPs today.

I'm casting the Lyman 40043. Buckshot HP'd this mold for me about a yr. ago. I couldn't be more pleased.

I have a Ruger PC-4, 40 S & W, semi-auto carbine that shoots these cast HP bullets real well.

Thought I better get out and cast some today.

Very nice looking boolits.

I have seen other examples of Buckshot's work - he is a very talented individual.

I know this is a bit off topic, but what is Russian Unique? I have never heard of it before.

Anyway, great looking boolits. They sure do expand!

From Pat's Reloading:

Russian Shotshell Powder, SALUT,we got work up sheet from PMC, for using it in 45 Auto, 230 FMJ, just tested it in M10/ colt 45 auto and works great, done up in .3 Kilograms, 8 bottles in box===5.3 lbs, 58.00 (11.00 LB), works great in 9mm also, ran in my Mac and CZ75 zings right along,

hmmm...is it cheap? I might have to try and dig some up at a gun show sometime if its pretty cheap. Also been keeping my eye peeled for any rex powder offerings, but so far no luck there either. I like experimenting with new powders, but I hate paying that damn Hazmat fee to get it shipped to me.

Castnshoot:

Alloy was air cooled wheel weights.

Ben - did you pour those with a dipper or bottom pour?

I don't bottom pour any of my bullets. I started in the late 60's with a ladle and haven't changed . I've got 40+ yrs. under my belt using the ladle pour system , I'm " set " in my ways, I guess ! !

I use an RCBS ladle, a 20 lb. Lee Magnum melter (no bottom pour feature on this model ) with the temp control dial set on 9 using straight WW's with this particular .40 cal. HP mold .

That sure looks like very nice boolits. Especially the first picture, that's definately cover material. Now tell me, did you photo shop the picture to get them to shine more? Come ooooooooon, did ya :-D??

Didn't know WW could get so shiny without tin!

Beautiful HPs !

Fantastic expansion for WW alloy ! That "big hole" did a great job !
How fast were those traveling?

Jerry:

I'm ashamed to say I don't own a chrony.

I'm estimating around 925 fps. The HP that expanded to over 3/4" in the photo in thread # 1 above was shot from a Glock Compact .40 S & W.

My friend who owns the Glock pistol had been carrying " High Dollar Jacketed HP's". Guess what he carries now ? ?
