I think the next mold I'm going to pick up is an 8mm for my k98. I've been looking around at a few and hit on this one at Accurate

Anybody have any experience with this one? I'm not planning on doing anything crazy with this rifle, just sticking to the 16gr. of 2400 Load for some fun plinking. With HiTek, do I need to worry about a gas check with that load, or would plain base be ok?

Not to many 8mm molds out there.
I have the four different Lee molds.
The 324/175 and Custom Karabiner work well in my 98k.
Still working on the Hakim.

I see all of those are gas checked designs. If I'm Hi Tek coating and only pushing to about 1600 fps, could I get away with a plain based design?

It is generally accepted that you can get away without a gas check up to around 1500fps.

The only way to find out is try it and see!

I use both these moulds for my Gew 98 and 1907/15 Berthier and they work well.

asmith, not with that exact bullet but a very close resemblance to it. I think mine is 33-205T...I'd have to check. Mine Is a gas check but other than that and the weight, they're about identical. It is an outstanding bullet in all my 8mm's.

Lee molds are ok and I have several, mostly round ball molds, but, they can't be put in the same class as Accurate. Definitely worth the difference in price.

Thanks for the info guys. Since I'm not planning on loading this for anything other than casual plinking I wanted to keep things as simple as possible, hence the no gas check design. Looks like I'm going to do a little experimenting

I have not cast this caliber, but do have experience with Accurate. Excellent company. Just email Tom and tell him what you are thinking. That looks like a good design to me. I just received my first iron mold from him this week. Very well made and worth every penny.
