Do you mean a encore? Single shot breech lock?

Not sure I know of any bolt action pistols?

Not single shots but a local gun shop closed and I picked up three NIB Remington XP100R's for $211.00 each. Calibers are .223, 260 Rem. and 35 Rem. Have a bunch of Contenders in longer range calibers also. The XP100R .223 see a lot of Prairie Dog usage. It's top with a 3 - 12 Burris Handgun Scope.

If the would of had the 22-250 I would have purchased that also. The plan was to rebarrel the 35 Rem to 6mm BR but I like it to much in 35 Rem. The 260 Shoots well but I don't shot is much so that my turn into a 6mm BR or a 6mm Dasher.

Remington started with the XP-100 in 1963. Since than Weatherby, Savage, Nosler, Anschutz and others have built bolt action handguns. Before Remington there were some target pistols in bolt action be they never were common.

I have a Remington XP-100 single shot in 7mm BR. It is exceptionally accurate, but I don't use it much. I've been thinking about selling it, with the 3x-12x Burris pistol scope, but I don't know how much to ask.

This one sold for $730.99. I see people asking as much as $1400, however, ones that actually sell are between $600 and $900.

I should have added the XP-100R, the Kauger Arms Black Widow, and other specialty pistols that can hold more than one round to the thread.

For those that are not aware Ernie specializes in long range handgunning. Longest shot I've made on a prairie dog is 453 yards. That is a chip shot in Ernie's world.

This is my XP-100 in 7br. I thought I wanted a fajen thumbhole stock in the 90's so had to have the barrel bobbed to make weight. It has a set on Williams rear sights and a redfield front. I am shooting a lbt 130 gr spitzer that shoots as well as I can.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200519/fbf2bc3c1dc07ed297e2598773861761.jpg

What an 308 Armadillo?

ASSASSIN
05-19-2020, 05:26 PM
The "Armadillo" series of cartridges are based on the full length 30-30 Winchester case necked to the appropriate caliber, with absolute minimum body taper, sharp shoulder angle, and caliber specific neck length.

Cartridges range from .224 caliber up through and including .375 caliber.

All cartridges are far more "improved" than what any Ackley Improved cartridge is.

These cartridges were designed for the T/C Encore, Ruger #1 and Browning 1885. And since modifying the Remington XP-100 bolt face and installing Sako extractors, the Remington is now included in this list.

Sounds very similar to the 257 JDJ and the 6.5 JDJ. I love my 6.5 JDJ.

Because of the pressure difference between the 30-30 and 225 Winchester brass, the 225 based cartridges are about 100 fps. faster than the 30-30 based cartridges.

But! Use 375 Winchester brass in the Armadillo series of cartridges, then the much stronger brass beats the 225 based cartridges by 200+ fps..

EXPLODING chicken eggs @ 600 yards with a pistol is a lot of fun, and just as "interactive" as full 12 oz. soda pop cans. :2_high5:

XP100 in 7mm BR. It shoots WAY, better than I do!
I also likes the look of the new Nosler, just can't seem to come up with the caliber I want, or the money. Not necessarily in that order

First round of drop confirmations at a grand.
Sometimes when you say you are going to take a some drop then you forget to....
It was a great confirming shot each time.
Didn't quite double it on the first and second shot, but once I brought it down...that was sweet.

Factory 7mm B-R handguns make awesome long-range handguns when rechambered to the 284 Winchester, and adds a good 500 yard effective range to it!

The bolt actions used to be more popular. There was the Remington XP100, but I've seen more Savage Striker's. They seem to have fallen out of favor, as they are far too big to be practical. They are nothing but stock-less rifles, which is exactly what they are meant to be. They are legal in shotgun hunting areas that allow handguns. Everyone knows about the Thompson Center's. I never could warm up to any of these style pistols. The Encore is close, but I never loved them.

The only one I did really like was made by Competitor Corp. They made something called the Competitor pistol, very similar to the Magnum Research lone eagle. Unlike the lone eagle, the competitor didn't have the cocking lever. It also balanced more like a handgun, while the LE felt rear heavy. They also had much classier stocks. I do not know if the LE was a switch barrel gun, but I do know the Competitor could be.

I wish they were still in business. I haven't seen one come up for sale any time I've been interested, or not in a caliber I care for.

They are out of business. They had a part or two that tended to break if I remember right.
I have a couple of Dominators that have been customized-Old school fun!

Since we're drifting around the bolt actions, I used to have an MOA Maximum in 308 Winchester. It was taken in a smash-and-grab burglary. It was a very accurate pistol, and more "handy" than the bolt actions. The falling block action is very strong.

Four or five years back, I sold my last XP100 (a 7BR, like yours) with a McGowan barrel, McMillan stock, and Burris rings/mounts for $825. Off sandbags piece would shoot cloverleafs at 100M.

I wish I had the .221 FireBall and 7mmBR XP100s that I had in the 1980s. The 7BR would be great for hunting deer from a blind. They are just too costly nowadays.

I had a B/A 30/30 I shot unlimited silhouette with for a while. It would put five RCBS 30-180s into 4 1/2" at 200M, the rams were not too safe.
Oh, to be able to see sights that good again!

I love them, every one I had. Original XP 221, Savage Striker 22-250 with a custom aluminum rail stock, Striker 243 and 223, Weatherby 7-08 that was very painful to shoot due to poor stock design, a muzzle break cured that. Sadly they are all passed on to others now. But, downstairs is a Rem XP100-R with a Doug Shilen 6mmBR barrel. I need to finish the stock work and get a new trigger for it to complete the project.

I thought so. I remember years ago someone using the action, putting about a 16 or 18" barrel and wood stock on it. Made a pretty dandy looking rifle.

An early Striker in 22-250. It had the tupperware stock that I strongly disliked. The Aluminum stock is from a young m,an that made rifle stocks of this type for Remington and Savage rifles. I had him make me a Striker stock as the only difference is the location of the front action screw hole. It was an impressive looking rig and so easy to shoot off a rest.
Sadly I had to part with it 20 years ago.

Ernie, my apologies, health issues off and on have kept me away. It was a brand new, never mounted 21” 30-06 barrel that we chopped the chamber down to re chamber to the 1.5” 30BR, then ran a 30-06 AI reamer in until it matched the .30 Bellm chamber. That way I can run fireformed BR brass all year and then carry shortened 1.4” Illinois legal length .30 Bellm when I deer hunt.

It kind of looks ridiculous that long, but balances beautifully, especially freehand, so I never got around to shortening it.
