My latest orphan

This is my second Savage 219
My first one is an early model in 22 Hornet. After I got that one I was hooked!
This one is a later model in 30-30 with the thick trigger. It had some broken parts and needed a wood refinish.
The price was right and I had to have it. Actually has good case color on the receiver. I added the 3/8 dovetail rings and a nice 2-7 Redfield.
the barrel had no bluing left on it and was Cerakoted by me in Black Velvet. ..Now I need to find more!

I was excited to get to the range today to give it a test drive.
I had another target and the shots were really random. Then I figured out that my gunsmith had the scope off the gun and the mounts were loose.
So .. after a bit of tightening and testing I made these 3 shots with adjustments @ 50 yds with the last one in the 10 ring.

For all the talk and love for the H&R rifles, I really think the old Savage 219's are better guns. Wish they still made them.

I love the 219’s and also the 22 Hornet. One day I will get off the stump and get one.

This one is a 30-30 but I have another 219 in 22 hornet
I call it a giggle gun...it makes you laugh when you shoot !
Its stupid accurate and a lot.of fun

I have one of those! I put the 30/30 barrel on a 94 frame (not
recommending it, do so at your own risk) as the trigger was a little better on it. Sights/scope were installed by a PO. Neat little rifle.

The .30-.30 Model 219's are notorious for losing zero due to the clamp-on rings moving under recoil, sliding the scope forward.

The Gold Standard fix is to blind D/T the top of the barrel for a cap head screw to act as a recoil stop - locate the hole so the screwhead will abut the front face of the front ring.
