Go a few questions on the 1893/93/336's but focused on the 1893's

1-are there any differences in the gun other than barrel with the different calibers, I see that the carriers are listed per caliber, but I wouldn't think they need to be different

2- are the takedown barrel threads different than the regular rifle barrel threads?

93s have a square bolt and the 36 and 336 have a round bolt. The barrel threads might be the same. I have a 93 that was sent to Marlin in the early 50s and had a new barrel installed.

The Model 1936 and the Model 36 both have the square bolt, Marlin switched to the round bolt in 1948 with the Model 336.

My 1893 is a short rifle, 20" octagon barrel chambered in 32-40.

Learn something new every day. I had a 36 in the shop a while back that had a round bolt. Maybe it was a 336 with a 36 marked barrel.

Regarding the carrier question, I have 1893’s in 30-30, 32-40 (both original) plus JES rebores from 30-30 and 32 Special to 35x30-30 and 38-55. All of these use the same carrier. In addition, my 336 rebored to 405 JES uses the original 30-30 carrier.

The 36 and the 336 both have the same barrel threads. I have swapped them out with no problems. The carrier depends on the length of the shell. I have had no problems using 32-40 for 30-30.

Thanks for the info guys, I was planning on buying a takedown 1893 in 30-30 and reboring to 38-55 to avoid bore/chamber problems. Then buy a barrel and piece together another takedown forend and line the barrel to 25-35. Maybe even go as far as another forend in 30-30 to have one rifle that chambers 3 rounds in different configurations (carbine 30-30, 26 oct 38/55, ? 25-35). The takedown extension is going to be a problem though, but it sounds like the carrier and barrels are not a problem.
