Large amount of work for something that destroys itself. These days the OSHA people would have a fit with the lack of safety standards they show.

Great Video, very labor intense! More steps than I would have thought.

You mean this isn't the way it was really done.

I had no idea that so much labor went into producing one of those shells. We shot up a bunch of them back in the early 60s. They were leftovers from WWII. Everything we had in the Navy was left over from WWII. Even some of the sailors.

Like match rifle ammunition, they had to be made to close tolerances to be very accurate.

General bombardment is no big deal if a few go long or fall short.

However;
If you're a Grunt calling them in, from an extended range, to land just in front of you---
you want them to be in a tight group, and go where they are supposed to.

Sorry; I don’t think match rifle ammunition is even in the same ball park as the manufacture of these shells. Not even if you’re making your own jackets from sheet gilding metal. The part shown in the film is the equivalent of a copper jacket for our small arms. The match grade jackets for small arms are drawn out in a few steps and there is some quality control applied but nothing like that in the film.

Now just imagine carry a 'clip' of 5 of the 3" shells to the gun as you run across the deck from the magazine! Many of the mounts were dual barrel rapid fire so you stay BUSY.

Well,
It was a good point.
Too bad a few guys missed it.
