OK, it's really a .45 Colt but for these boolits it's a ".44 bore".
These are a perfect fit for the bore, made with #445369 and a plain base plug. They drop out at 362 grains. Will probably start with 65 grains of FFg once checked to assure the powder column keeps the card in the rifling. Rummaged around and found some brass with standard primers.

So just how are you going to get 65 grains of FFg in a .45 Colt case? Inquiring minds want to know.

That may be a problem. :killingpc

Sorry, thought that was evident.
The powder column has to keep the card in the rifling.
The powder, card and the bore diameter boolit will get loaded from the muzzle. This is the same technique Paul Matthews wrote about when shooting his 45-70 as a 45-120.
You could make a paper cartridge that seats in the .45 case and pushes the breech seated boolit up the bore similar to a 1859 Sharps but there's no need to and no point in so reducing the powder column.

Will plan on giving her a try tomorrow.

Previously I used black with a 250 grain hollow base #445599 with only the tail ring in the case.

And a bore rider design with smokeless.

The versatility of the .45 single shot makes it a lot of fun to tinker with.

No problem. He's gonna chamber a primed case and load powder, wad and bullet from the muzzle. Or some similar procedure.

Have been threatenin' to get an offhand target rifle to use #445599, the RCBS 45-280 and the #445369.
This may fill the bill but I'd like be able to use small charges. Perhaps placing charges in the cases, followed by a punched wax paper disk and then the minies with bases filled with lube on top of the disks will work well enough.

Or maybe use 1/2" wax paper disks stuck to the lube in the base of the minies and insert that in on top of the powder charge, then chamber that to breach seat the minie. Eh, we'll see.

Sounds like a good experiment. Let us know how it works.

The loading is pretty much like the false muzzle target rifles from back in the era. Muzzle loading breach loader. Fun!

Push the bullet down the muzzle to the stop. Load the cartridge with the charge or paper charge. Fire.

Ready to go. Just need the time out.
Can do the same thing paper patching with the .41 Mag single shot rifle. More fun!
