Well, the boredom of being home is really getting to me. So I finally tried my hand at polishing and waxing. I've marveled at some of the pictures guys have posted on the S&W forum, so I figured what the heck.

My only nickel gun is my long tom 27-2. I took an old terry towel cut into strips and "shoe shined"as much as I could. I had secured the gun in my bench vise with wooden blocks on the grip frame, so I was able to polish with two hands. I then did the flats and the cylinder just hand held. I then rubbed on a coat of Ren wax and let it cure for a few hours. I then polished it all out with a clean old t shirt.

I apologize, but I had a tough time photographing it. It's too shiny!!

I think I did a pretty good job, no?

You did a great job for impressing people. You did a horrible job for hunting. :kidding:

No need to shoot anything. Just blind it with the reflection and then whack it over the head with the gun.

Not terrible, the polish and wax just really brings out the shine!

Flitz is great. Years ago (Gulfport MS) I bought a Detroit PD Model 10 5in in nickel that had clouded over and looked like milk. One of the workers there let me use her tube of Flitz and it brought it back beyond my wildest dreams. I went and bought a tube right after that.

I do like Flitz and Semichrome for polishing a dull surface. You got that nickel bright!

That is very shiney ! You need some mother of pearl grips on it now to enhance the bling factor ! Lol

Speaking as a former Tincan sailor, Flitz is the best way to shine brightwork. It beats Neverdull all to heck.

Also speaking as a former tincan sailor, I swore off polishing brightwork when I retired, but a good nickel reolver might make me rethink that.
