Howdy, I'm looking at a Stevens 47 (44 1/2 action), and they say the action droops. What would it take to fix the problem?

The 44-1/2s had a spring and plunger in the top of the lever that bore on the bottom of the link to keep the lever up. If this assembly gets stuck, with hardened oil, rust, a broken spring, etc, it will stay down and the lever won’t snap up.

Some Liquid Wrench and judicious pulling/twisting with needlenose pliers should get the plunger out and you can see what’s going on.

.

As noted above, the problem is not insurmountable, so if the price is right, play dumb and use it as a bargaining tool for possibly bettering your expense.

Could also be worn pins and link.

The "44-1/2" Stevens is a True 'falling block' type action design.
As such, it does not seem to stress the 'link and pins' like the pivoting block type of the "Favorite" or "Model 44" Stevens designs.

My bad, I was thinking 44. There is a spring loaded plunger in most that I have seen.
