450 Bushmaster built on a Savage platform with a 1:16 barrel from Rhineland Arms.

With factory ammo and j-word handloads the rifle shoots great.

Would like to try cast boolits so slugged the barrel and it came out at .4535.

Is it worth trying to use a .452 mold or should I go straight to a .454?

Thanks, Matt.

What he said. If you are buying a new mold, you can always size it down if need to.

you can adjust the final size of the boolit a little by how hot you cat the boolits at. the hotter you cast them the more they will shrink when cool.

What mold would drop a .454 keith style boolit over 300gr?

Just go to Accurate molds & order one, any size you like. Just understand the final size will vary with alloy & casting temp.

If you're not casting too hot, many moulds will drop at 453-454, especially Lymans.

I don't think a true Keith style bullet over 300 grains exists. You could have it custom made. I would look into using the Lee 457-340-F .

I would cast, PC, then measure without sizing. I'd shoot them and see. Then cast, load, repeat. :)

Thanks for all the good tips.

With jwords shooting so well I'm almost tempted to pick up a Lee .452 300gr to start with. I know it may not feed well but I've never cast before so it could be a cheap way to get started and get to where I understand more and can make a better choice on a Noe, Accurate etc.

Well I bit the boolit and just ordered this mold, hope it works out!
