On the rear back left side on my Sav.340 is 2 pluged holes, What kind of a reciever sight was made for these. In the 60s I had one in 222 and it had a side mount with a weaver J4 scope, Would like too get the sight that fits this one. Thanks - Joe

Lyman, Redfield, Williams and probably Savage/Stevens made sights for these. Check the Brownells or Williams website to see if they are still avaialble, and check some old sources (Gun Digest?) for out of production numbers. Ebay has a "vintage gun parts" section that has lots of sights. The Gunbroker type sights do too.

Ugly old guns, but some were good shooters.

smokemjoe;
If you hold the rifle normally, raise the bolt handle and slowly withdraw it you should be able to see that there is no place for a receiver sight. Were you to mount one, you could not withdraw the bolt to operate the FA.
The screw holes on the side are for mounting a scope side mount plate.

The mounts come up on ebay from time to time, I think that they were made by Lyman for Savage, the number of the mount was 40 according to an old Savage Quick Detachable Mount list that I have. The rest of the list is Lyman Tru-Lock bases, and rings with Savage stamped on them.

Those two holes are for a receiver sight. I have the Williams which fits and works fine.

Has anyone got a picture? I'd appreciate it. Obviously I've never heard of it.
Thanks , Pepe Ray

I bought on old Lyman receiver sight on Ebay to fit the Savage 340. Those screws are quite a bit larger than the normal 6-48.
