i have decided that this grip is just too small for me.
i dont have big hands but this thing is too little.
i need (for lack of a better term) fatter grips that fill my hand.
any suggestions?
p.s.
i want it to still look traditional.
that means i dont want black overmolded houges.
thank you
bill

I had the same problem and solved it by finding some old Jay Scott grips at the local show. They are considerably wider and don't change the look at all. They are the black pearl grips in this picture.

i have spent about 2 1/2 hours trying to figure out *** difference there is between new model blackhawks that were discontinued when i was a baby in the early 60's
and new model blackhawks that were made last year as well as some new model vaqueros that stopped having larger frames in the 70's or something that have the same frames as certain new model blackhawks.

my new model blackhawk was made in 2007

if i ever find out if either one of these grips fit.
i will pick up the phone and buy them that second.
i REALLY like the big ol presentation grips on my 27-2 S&W.
so if those ones pictured work out it will be great.

billy just call the grip maker they should know what their grips fit.
as long as you know when& what you have they should know their product line.
if not you may not want to but what they have to sell.

and personally i like pachmeyers.

[QUOTE=unclebill;435124]maybe these?
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l272/billhedges/image085.jpg

i got these on the way.
this is what the website had to say.

Photo shows two representatives of genuine Italian Walnut Target Grips to fit the Ruger Blackhawk, Vaquero, or Single Six models currently in production. These will not fit the Super Blackhawk, or other Rugers made before 1975. Note the moderately protruding finger and thumb rests from either side. These grips are ambidextrous, attractive, and highly functional, a definite asset to otherwise plain-looking revolvers. These were manufactured in Italy for Sile Distributors in New York, a very active company in the 1980s and 1990s market, and still there today. These particular grips are from an old Southern Warehouse where we found only a few sets recently. Own the ones in the photo, or one of their identical mates

the man at the store where i bought those didnt understand rugers incoherent grip frame designations either.

First there was the XR3, and that was on the original "Flattop" Rugers. Grips that fit the early flattops should fit the new 50th anniversary grip frames as well. Other standard Blackhawks have the XR3 RED, (redesigned) and are larger, and shaped a little differently, since there were many early complaints about the recoil sensation with the original grips. I don't think that the New Vaquero's have the same grip frame as the 50th anniversary ones do, but they would perhaps be the closest.

NHlever,
thank you!
if these grips fit my hand anything like the ones on my S&W 27-2
i will be a happy boy.
they were only 25 bucks counting shipping too.

ok guys you can start making fun of me now.
they dont fit.
they feel great in my hands though so i am trying to decide what to do with them.
should i just shoot em as is and live with a gap at the bottom of the backstrap for awhile as well as a small slanting gap at the top?
i dont want to put the originals that beat my finger up back on.
i cant return these
and i cant afford any more grips right now,.
any suggestions?
there are no gun stores to speak of within a full days drive from here.
so shopping for grips is out of the question.
thanks

acraglas gel, or something like that, at this point you might as well, just make sure you use sufficient release agent and mask between where the grips make contact.

i am getting these grips to work.
i opened up the pin holes inside so i could move the grips around and they are starting to behave.
and i installed very thin rubber shims on both sides or the rear grip frame.
almost like a gasket.
my camera batteries are recharging but will post pics soon.

Bill, when you get them all fit, they look like they will be comfortable. I use a set that is similiar to that on an OMSBH made by Herrett's and I like them, and they look classy like yours.

they feel great in my hands.
they've got that thumb /finger groove on both sides.
i am a ambidextrous handgun shooter so thats a plus.

i will coat the pins and area around them with a release agent and bed them with some epoxy so that the grips cant move at all.
they do look kinda cool dont they?:drinks:
