Corder33,

Welcome to the Forum; I see this is your first post. I do not know about your powder because I never used it. As for a 220 grain boolit in a .308, that would not be my first choice. My .308s like the Lyman #311467 a 175 grain boolit or the Lee .312-185-1R, a 185 grain RN boolit.

Be Well.

Adam

its a pull down 50 BMG and 20MM powder, guys would fill a case full over 5g of a kicker powder (red dot, unique, etc) at the bottom against the primer. it is a slow powder so it doesnt build enough pressure to be overpressure.
never tried it in 308, so cant help with data, i played with it a little in 762x54, it has a different sound when fired, kinda of a black powderish "BOOF" sound. if it isnt a full case and slightly compressed, it will burn dirty and leave unburnt kernals in the barrel. ive read guys have used it in 300 mag and 338 lapua but have plenty of H1000 for them

AA8700 is so slow you can't get enough in the case to be dangerous. Use a magnum primer and fill it to the base of the bullet, even compressed is OK. I haven't in the .308, but have done this in .30-06 and 7.62x54. I would try it without the kicker charge, you'll likely get a little unburned powder, but when trying this in .458, I got better accuracy with a slightly compressed charge and no kickers verses any of the ones I tried with various kicker charges.

Hello Corder33

What twist rate is your rifle? I am a fan of heavy cast boolits because the way I see it, a heavy cast boolit can be driven as fast as a light boolit. The problem you may find is actually fitting the boolit into the rifle. Boolit bases should not protrude past the neck so your OAL may preclude magazine feeding. I shoot 303 Brits which were made for heavies so I don't have a problem. On the other hand, heavy boolits allow for the use of slower powders and that's what you have.

Here is a thread on your powder. http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?364440-Load-data-for-H870-H5010-and-AA8700

found this on a thread about the 8700,
http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?92484-Replacement-Powder-for-Discontinued-AA-8700-very-slow-stabe-burn-at-low-PSI

There is no official load data for 308 for this powder put out by Accurate, but if you examine all the load data they have put out for AA-8700 you will find that every load they have in all but the most over-bore cartridges calls for a full case compressed load and that is exactly what works in the 308 as well. If you have any magnum primers that you aren’t using for the big, big cases they are intended for this is the place to use them. They aren’t required for most loads but they usually improve the load and tighten up the groups, which is the opposite of what magnum primers usually do with most powders in medium capacity cases at least in my experience.
