I have a rifle in 8mm-06 on its way. I'd like to make it a cast deer hunting rifle. I have a few molds of suitable diameter, and could probably use on of mine for the .32 Winchester Special, but the idea of those very heavy, flat nose bullets sounds intriguing. Anyone with experiences good or bad?

Both those Midsouth custom molds are oversized and designed for old war horses with worn/eroded throats.
Does your 8mm-06 have a proper chamber/throat like a commercial rifle? If so, I bet you may have problems with those Midsouth customs. Then I would think the Lee C324-175 would be a good one

Jon, I don't have possession of it just yet. Won it on gunbroker Sunday. I'll check it when I do.

I do have an Oviedo sporter with a very oversized, worn bore that one of these might work with if it doesn't pan out in the 8mm-06.

If it's a tube-fed gun yo may want to look for flat-nosed boolits.

the RCBS works haven't played with the C324-175-1R or downsizing some of my fatter molds.

The Lee C329-205-1R and Karabiner that I have both drop at .330" using a range lead 'alloy'.

I have a Karabiner for my K98 and like it. Boolits drop heavy, close to 230 gr and hit very hard. I have to seat them deep for the Mauser, with all grease grooves inside the case. I crimp just before the ogive starts. Loads are fairly tame anyway, no pressure issues. Would not want to hotrod them, probably.

I was thumbing through a Speer manual from the 70s last night which had load data for a 225 grain jacketed bullet for the 8mm-06. A later Speer manual from the 90s didn't have that particular bullet so it must have been discontinued, but at least I have some start ideas with some powders I have on hand.

Kinda looking more and more forward to this now. I think I'm going to form some brass for it today.
