I picked up this mold a couple years ago, just got around to casting with it. Ready to load up some plinkers.

The Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook shows a 1.450 OAL for this pill. At that length the brass covers about half of the middle band.

The next groove sure looks like a crimp groove to me, seems like it should be seated and crimped there.

Anyone else loading these? Seating to the groove?

I crimp in the crimp groove for 38 ,but use those more in 380.

For .38 Special I just seat in the crimp groove. Other rounds like 9mm or .380 I seat as long as possible but still chambers.

Thanks for the replies, just wondered why the Lyman data seats it out so far. I loaded a couple dozen to the published OAL and they shoot great with 4.0 Bullseye.

I crimp in the groove after powder coating them. 4.5gr of unique gets them downrange accurately and super cheap.

I tried them in my Rossi trapper 16" and work fine, but they shoot high to the sights set for 158gr SWC. I think I was loading 3.4 gr bullseye.

Did you adjust the powder to shoot the way you like

Don't really like those bullets in .38 special or .357 mag, but my 9mm Model 59 really likes them. If you powder coat, in a 38 you can crimp them in any grove you want, as long as they will chamber in your gun.

Adding more powder will only make them shoot higher. A lite bullet Will almost always shoot higher to the sights when it is sighted in for a heavier bullet, at least in my experience. Reducing powder especially when shooting them in a rifle can cause a bullet to stick in the barrel. 3.4 gr of bullseye is a lite load already.

I use it over 5 grs of Bullseye in both 9mm and .38 Special. I taper crimp a thumbnail under the front edge for the 9mm and roll crimp in the groove for the .38. I like it a lot and it saves lead.

I always crimp at the crimp groove or a lube groove on .38’s but have never used that bullet.

One of my lever actions needed a longer COL to feed reliably and that was why I used the lube groove. Otherwise I would not have done it.

Has anyone tried pushing this bullet hard/fast?

years ago it was probably my most shot bullet. Id cast a few thousand. Tumble lube them and shoot them unsized in my 38s and 357s. Even used them in 9s later on. Pretty much don't shoot my 38s much anymore since I quit competitive shooting. Still use it though. My wifes lc9 runs it with pop gun level loads like butter so its here practice ammo.

I use this bullet a lot. I always crimp in the upper crimp groove as it was designed that way. Try 3.1 gr. WST. Bullseye competition accurate in my K38 and soft shooting.
