I have a chance to buy a Colt Python from a good friend. We are unsure of what a fair price might be. The gun has a 6" barrel, and is in close to mint condition, although it has been used (but not hard). It comes with the original box and papers. Any insight as to value (even a WAG) will be greatly appreciated.

Wow, good opportunity to buy from a friend at a non inflated rate, but coming up with a value will be tough, seems a couple thousand is pretty average these days.

$1,500 would be a steal, $2,000 to $2,500 is what they are selling for here and I have seen people asking $4,000 or more.

Check out the prices on Gun Brokers.

You R in Canada. In US Dollars an older nicer blued. well tuned/timed examples were $3000.00 US dollars not long ago. The market must have changed w/ the introduction of the "New Python" so, I'd [WAG] guess he would sell it for one & and half ozs of gold. uncle mike

I'd trade several barrels of crude oil for one :)

The new Python is not the same gun. As a shooter it's claimed to resolve the double action timing issues but from what I have seen it has not changed the value of the old ones.

Thanks to all who responded. My friend and I have reached an agreement satisfactory to both of us. I am blown away by his generosity, but as happy as a clam!!!

You sound like you got a good deal, but a great friend.

If there was a picture or two I’d be more inclined to buy into this “happy-ever-after” story.

Well, the deal has not been completed yet. He is on the coast and I am in the interior so, with this self isolation thing it may take awhile. Anyhow, I do not know how to post pictures. I am basically computer illiterate.
