I have another one! This is a Smith & Wesson model 27 from the early 70's, some previous owner engraved their driver's license number on the gun, in two places....it also had some holster wear and mild rust pitting...I removed the graffiti and polished it up, then reblued it.

Those short barreled N-frames are so classic and "bad" looking. All business when you need them.. Great work too. Todd/3leg

You do great work. It makes me want to do this myself. Is bead blasting the bluing off of a revolver not an option? I have done it with autos in the past.
Good work.
I love the short barreled N Frames.
I got a 27 in the original 5".
But picked up a 25 , .45 acp cut down to 2 1/2" with a round butt and custom grips.
It is like a Detective special on Steroids.
On my other guns , I removed the bluing by soaking them in Vineger.
Then bead blasting them after polishing out any wear marks or scratches.
They blued up nice using Slow Rust Bluing.
But not as deep and nice as the original M 27 finish

Bead blasting removes material and leaves a rough surface, better to use a mild acid like vinegar or naval jelly.
In this case I only polished the areas that needed polishing, I mimicked the amount of shine and blued right over the old bluing. S&W (as do 99% of gunmakers) use the same method for bluing guns, which is also the method I use, so the results come out the same.

That's a great restoration. I envy someone working at level of the game.
I'd have bit the bullet and sent it out to be done.
