Good evening everybody.

I've been lurking on this site since last December when I started thinking about getting back into hand loading again. It's been since the early 80s that I've done much, and that was mostly 9mm; however I did do some loads for my .308 a few years ago with just the simple Lee Loader. I recently bought out all the tools and supplies from a buddy of mine who no longer uses it.

Now I'd like to work up a load for my .30-30 Winchester '94. Today the mailman left me a box of 165gn RNFP cast bullets. I can't find any specific loading data for this bullet and the powders that I have on hand, but I've got a bunch of IMR4320 from when I was loading for the .308, and thought I might try starting with about 18 grains of that and see how it goes.

I also have most of a pound of IMR4350, but can't find any data on that at all. Anyone used IMR4350 with cast bullets in .30-30?

I would not drop down that low with a rifle powder. Maybe start at 28grains.
Checkout the online data at Hodgdon.com

Both of the powders you mention are a bit slower than most use for the 30-30 with cast or jacketed. That doesn't mean they may not work for you. I believe you'll find with both powders that you will end up with close to a case full before they start burning efficiently. Both of them would be very friendly on a cast bullet as far as pressure is concerned.
Let us know how it turns out,
Rick

If your bullets have gas checks, just find the starting load for 4320 with 170 gr jacketed bullets and use that. An older Lyman book will have it.

fill the case to the neck with IMR 4350 and seat an RCBS 30-180 FN cast from soft lead (8-10 BHN). This will give you about a 190 grain boolit over about 31 grains of powder and will be a pretty accurate and deadly short-range hunting load.
