Lee 309 & Unique

Got to do some testing at the range today with the lee 309-150f and 309-170f. Also shot some 230g of unknown origin, so I wont speak much on those. They were all loaded with Unique and run through my NEF Handi Rifle 30-06. I did mouse fart loads for the 170f with 5- 5 round loads ranging from 10.0g-12.0g working up at .5g increments. Unfortunately, my scope was not very dialed in for the 170g, so I used those to get the scope on paper. Grouping seemed decent once on paper and was fun to shoot the 30-06 with such little recoil. The 150g were loaded at 17.0g and 17.5g. Best grouping was with 17.0g. My fifth shot was operator error. The 150 & 170's were powder coated, gas checked, and sized to .309. These were the first boolits I've ever cast & shot, so I am pleased with the results thus far.

To me, the lee 150 is a funny looking bullet with a short nose. But they shoot well so I use them. The lands in my win 94 lightly rub the noses when chambered, crimped in the groove.

50 yards is the distance for plinking and much woods hunting. My rifles that shoot cast are zeroed at 50 yards. My Ruger American Compact in .308 had 5 touching recently at 50 with a Lee 309-180r over 17 of 2400. If your barrel has a 1 in 10" try a heavier boolit. My Model Seven has a 1-12" and shoots great with a 160 gr. boolit. over 10 of Unique.
