45 ACP Shotshell question

I'm trying to make sure I check with a GOOD pair of calipers...

Mine seem to be missing tonight though -.-

Can anyone measure the ID just below the mouth of a case that's been newly formed from MilSurp brass?

Making sure of a part to get made, to try something.

Had those URLs & have posted most of them before, but, they don't show the ID in a case, once it is sawn off. I am hoping the ID is in the 0.410 - 0.416 size range...

The case I have ready to load are from a batch I know runs. The are winchester .243 cases trimmed to 1.170 after forming. Wall thickness at the mouth is .018 with a .402 ID and .438 OD.

.416 with .018 walls would put you right at .452 od and might stick in the lead, you'll just have to see if they plunk after you load them up.

What is your wall thickness?

Still cannot find my evil hiding calipers, might have to buy another pair if they don't show by this weekend. Thus no idea my ID.

My cats get bored & "help" me at times, with my shot knees a lot of stuff's still boxed, so I have to clean up after moving the stacks & then I find the darnedest things!

In building brass from cut down .223 for my .300 blkout I invested in a tubing mic to get accurate case thickness readings that I wasn’t getting from a caliper. My 300 seems to be more case thickness sensitive than what it should be and this helped me sorting brass. I eventually bought a neck trimmer though.

Commercial brass should be, yes. MilSurp is cheaper, though, than commercial.

How many thousand rounds of shot shell are you going to load? If commercial were more mailable and easier to form seems it would be worth it. I'm going to try my hand at some of these one day but too much going on to open another can of worms right now.

Not many, just trying to avoid filing cases to length in my too-small apartment. Think "Disaster Central"...

I made a little jig for my shotshell work, saw outside and sand flush, 30 seconds a case isn't difficult.

It's pretty hard to file on stuff when the maintenance guys walk up and start asking me to stop, could get evicted, as in. Plan is to move, only this Covid baloney's slowing me down somewhat...
