So it's warming up and I am back at doing real gel testing, using genuine porcine gelatin. The batch came out a but stiff this time, with a 17 caliber bb just penetrating 3 inches. I know this because my Daisy is very consistent. 6 pumps at ~50 degrees is always between 580-600 FPS.

Tested 10 grains of Blue Dot vs 6.5 grains of Unique pushing the same bullet...the MP-Molds 358429 HP using the small hollowpoint pin. Lubed with Carnuba blue and made of 95-3-2 (pb-sn-sb) air-cooled alloy these weigh 157-158 grains. (alloy made by mixing two parts COWWs with one part lead and adding an ounce of tin for every three pounds of alloy).

Unfortunately the sun was not working with the Chrony so I have no velocities to report; however, the 10 grain of Blue Dot load was sufficiently fast stepping to blow the cavity right off the core, leaving a pretty nasty initial cavity but a narrow channel to a depth of 16" being the resting spot for the core which was little over 36 caliber.

The 6.5 grain of Unique load was quite impressive for its rather sedate recoil. At an obviously lower velocity (I'm guessing around 1000 FPS) the bullet stayed together and returned an expansion of .57" and penetration of 13.5." Not a bear, moose, or even deer load really, but excellent for everything smaller.

Not pictured is 4 layers of denim.

Nice! Awesome expansion!

Your lube is still intact too!

Your lube is still intact too! It is consistently surprising how little lube is deposited in barrels. I'd estimate maybe 10-20% is all.
