The Winchester 73 repros in 45 Colt caliber will hang up if the cartridges are the wrong length. I hope those that load these will share their ideas of the correct length. I have settled on 1.600 for the moment but would like to know what the rest of you think. Thanks for your help................

1.60" is the SAAMI max. cartridge length for the .45 Colt and should work.

Make up some dummy rounds
Don’t put a primer in them

Nose profile can make a difference. Blunt bullets might need just a little bit deeper seating. Gotta work with the timing of the lifter and all.

The Lee .452-255RF seated in the crimp groove worked flawlessly for me in a Uberti '73 Winchester rifle.

OAL 1.6 regardless of nose configuration. Anything longer will hang up the lifter.

The COL of the reload is dependent on the bullet length and your rifle’s lifter. 1.60 is the max length. My reloads run between 1.58 for levels down to 1.55 for Colt Lightning

That is how I do it, except I use the 200 grain. Never encountered any problems of any kind.
