Came into a huge pile of 7.62x51 NATO being sold as scrap brass. Very nice annealed cases with DAG93G0368 headstamp. Primers are Berdan, lacquered and crimped.

Guessing ammo dates to march of 1968 or 1993 which would make it this. From Wiki:

"DAG Dynamit Nobel A-G () - Troisdorf, Rhein-Sieg-Kreis, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany and Fürth. It owned the RWS, Geco, and Rottweil brands. In 2002 its ammunition factories and their brands were purchased by RUAG (Rüstungs Unternehmen Aktiengesellschaft) and were spun off to form RUAG Ammotec GmbH (Fürth)."

Have the RCBS swager and drills are ordered. Something to do while locked down.

Seems like it would be much less hassle to simply use new Berdan primers, since they're available now for about the same prices as boxer primers.

Except that Nasty Water Deprimming process; or the less than friendly process for using and RCBS Berdan Decapping Tool or similar tool (at About $70.00 to $100.00 each).

Many would rather do the Berdan Removal process once per case rather than each time it gets reloaded.

I think boxer is much less of a hassle then decapping berdan , yes it takes some time to alter it but probably less then decapping berdan everytime .

for the cheap price of quality 308 brass and the quality of what you have, Id sell it for scrap and just buy boxer brass. Your time is valuable too.
If this was some oddball caliber you cant reasonably get boxer for it would be worth the hassle of converting.

Pretty clever up to the point where he flushed bottom with the bench grinder. Maybe in a Preppers Apocalyptic Zombie infested landscape, did I see a drill press? No, wait a minute, if the Zombies are out that means there's probably no power. Well, the grinder would not work either, geez, this end of times stuff is never ending.[smilie=b:

A pointed pick, like an ice pick will do the trick nicely. I have used them before to de-prime .43 Spanish berdan primed cases. You just have to go slow and careful not to punch our hand.

Ditto, 7.62 NATO & 308 so common conversion to boxer isn’t practical. On this forum it freaks me out to see guys selling 5.56 & 7.62 range pick ups. Seems many times shipping plus cost would be in neighborhood of new brass.

Funny I buy used brass here and I do compare its price to sites that sell brass and new factory brass , some do over price , some have a good deal and so do your homework , I have some odd calibers that brass is not so readily available , so converting makes sense , I have done this conversion it works and as to the link for berdan primers when I looked they were out of stock , like so many places that advertise and when you go you find out of stock , this conversion eliminates the need to store another style of primers , and if one does not want to do it then dont .

Ive used 6.5 berdan cases by drilling a centre hole ,and using the correct berdan primer with a donor anvil from the waste primer bin....Lot quicker than it sounds........Some say to use a ball bearing as an anvil,as the two flash holes are still there......not tried it.
